July Heat Wave and ESC's

Wheww!! Is it ever hot, here in southern Ontario. Just curious how everyone's ESC's and bats holding up? I'm not flying because it's so hot and the winds are up with the hot weather. I had an esc shut down on overtemp last year in weather like this. Cooling is a must in temps like these.

Re: July Heat Wave and ESC's

I flew 6 times with 3 planes 2 days ago, in the morning, so not as hot, but did limit the flt times to 5 mins or so... so darn windy tho!

Esc's were warm, but not too bad, batteries were about as they always are, temp wise...

gotta love the heat

Interesting thought ... I must say the heat it is pretty evident in flight characteristics with crazy thermals off the asphalt! Besides, the smog we have had also screws up the ability to see where the plane is!

My approach this past weekend.. I sneak out the house at the crack of dawn, stop in at the local Tims and fly before the wind comes up.

Just like Revelstoke in the spring, lol!

Heat damage can be an instant killer or a gradual one. Just keep lots of air flowing over top.

We are getting some summer temps finally and I have plenty of air flowing over the ESC in my 10S Byron Cap 21 and various foamies without issue, yet.

Those little temp gauges that are out there are a very handy tool to check ambient and equipment temperatures.

Re: July Heat Wave and ESC's

Hey!

Must say I am not complaining about the heat! I love it for sure! It is just the freaking smog that spoils an otherwise perfect day..

Here's hoping that we find a way to put less crap into the air in my lifetime...

Rant over.

Re: July Heat Wave and ESC's

My edf jets are running warm , but I thought that would be for the constant full throttle .lol but overall I'm happy with my flight times at the real air field lol
