FAST!! It is easily doing over 140mph. No radar gun, but its definantly moving out.
Was that the one he flew at MaidenFest?

Re: 155MPH FunJet Ultra!!

Hey Guys!!! Sorry for never responding here!! I kinda forgot about this thread and never checked in!

Yep - this Funjet Ultra was the one I "maidened" at MaidenFest, however my first flight there had the batteries too far back and it was barely controllable!

Since then, I've moved the CG forward to the recommended location and I've been having an absolute ball with it!!

Top Speed is 155mph . It's so stable to fly and super easy. I've never flown planes at this type of speed before, but it's addicting!!!

I'm running 4S-3300mAh HobbyCity Nanotech packs with an APC 4.75x4.75 pusher prop on that ARC motor and it's peaking at 105Amps.

After 4 minutes or hard flying, I'm putting 3000mAh back in and the NanoTech packs are puffed out pretty well!!!

I've got about 80 or 90 flights on it so far and just love it!! I've broken off the nose, wings and ailerons a few times each (all in different locations) and I'm simply glueing it all together with thick CA.... holds up perfect at those speeds still. It looks a little rough up close, but still flies like day 1

I'm gonna order a new FunJet Ultra this week and will relegate this one to "back-up" status!

As for the components, everything is holding up perfectly!

Cheers

Trevor

Re: 155MPH FunJet Ultra!!

There is a modeler at our club that put a turbine on the FJ! It's one of those Kolibri super small turbines with 7lbs thrust. Needless to say it is fast and gives quite a show.
Cheers

Re: 155MPH FunJet Ultra!!

Just wondering whether a bigger lipo would work (weight and size wise)?

I'm looking at a 4S 3300 (nano-tech specifically) and it weighs in at 425gm vs a 4S 4500 at 567 gm (the one that I want to use) which is a weight increase of just over 30%.

With your experience, can that funjet ultra handle the increase in weight not to mention the increase in size in the existing battery compartment??

I'm sure it can handle the weight, since mine floats quite well, but you'll likely also lose a bit of speed. Your biggest challenge will be space - my 4S-3300's are a very tight fit.. I'll try t snap a few pictures of the fit of my packs for you!

Cheers

Re: 155MPH FunJet Ultra!!

Trev, the esc you're using is no longer available at lightflight and I can't find anyone who sells it.

What esc would you switch to?

Re: 155MPH FunJet Ultra!!

Was just wondering where you guys had the thrust line set on the rear for the engine.
I will be doing a maiden this week and plan to start at zero.

thanks Bill

Re: 155MPH FunJet Ultra!!

Hand launch or bungee?

I'm starting to think with this coming in just over 3lb, a bungee would be better. A search turned up several home-builts launchers using surgical tubing.

A search here showed that theraband tubing might be better than surgical tubing. Thoughts?
