Looking for someone to cover my Cub. I did indicate a cloth and dope finish, but due to the lack of response, I am willing to have it covered in a different material. Just want a better job than I would be able to do. I will still pay for the materials, and time spent. Let me know if you are interested.........

I've done my 60 size cub with cloth and dope. I used a heat shrinkable fabric ( I think it was 21'st century stuff and Nitrate dope). It wasn't all that big of a job as I recall. I just followed the instructions. Painting the thing is what is going to take the most time IMO. I honestly think the dope job took way less time than using monocote. It was the painting that took the majority. If you want, you can even use colored dope. Makes for a more easily repaired surface. I have had some troubles with paint coming off my covering. Not huge amounts, but the odd chip here and there.

If I had to do my cub again, I'd definitely use cloth and coloured dope. If I had done that, the screw driver hole in my wing would take about 20 minutes of actual work. I currently am looking at stripping the paint, dope in a patch, prime, sand, paint some more.

if it had been doped, I could just scuff, patch, dope and feather.

One added bonus..... If you do the doping yourself, you will know why dope is on the street. (well ventilated means a good breeze, maybe best outside)

Good luck with it though, you'll be very happy with the finish. I'd definitely do it again, especially for the durability of it.

Just a note nitrate dope is not fuel proof. You have to apply butyrate dope over top to get a fuel proof finish. Also butyrate is available in many colours.

You might get a better response in a month or two... the weather has been way tooo nice this week to think about indoor activities yet!

Sig Coverall is another good iron on fabric that can be dopped.

This is the GP cub 40. I have finished up the base color of my cub. It is monokote. I am now working on adding the red super-cub scheme. Attached picture is what I am going for.

Covering the Cub is not that bad. If you take your time you can do a decent job.
1) You have to watch where you stick the iron down or you will ruin the "open" structure look.
2) The wing tips on the cub are the most difficult I have done. It is a compound curved shape with no real sheeting underneath to use to nurse the covering into the form required. With patience and after burning my finger tips a few times I did manage to get them done and they look great.
3) The area where the verticle stab comes down into the "open" structure takes some attention too.



I might have considered covering yours for you but I do not know where you are so the costs of getting the airframe to--from me would likely be prohibitive.
