Looking good, Dave!

I've cut out a ply backplate for the dummy radial. Need to afix said radial, paint and add a few details. Won't be a scale representation of any particular engine, but it will dress things up.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Cool, it made a huge difference doing that on my Hollywood Zero, really spruces it up.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Can't imagine having that big huge cowl opening with only that "tiny" engine showing. Ranks up there with not having a pilot in a scale plane!

Btw I'm meeting up with Tom tomorrow evening. I reminded him about pics for the other planes.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Finally, one side of the Wildcat is 95% done sheeting, with only a small area of the back end to go on the other side. Hoping to get all the sheeting done tomorrow, sanded, and get on with glassing. I've been way too slow on this build, time to ramp it uP!

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Slow? Slow is the 2 years it took me to repaint a little ParkZone Wildcat into a RN Martlet! It's getting its maiden tomorrow. I'll snap a pic or two to post as inspiration

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Cool! I've finally got all the tail feather and tailwheel controls done, elevator and rudder servo on mounting tray installed, so time to close up the aft end of the fuse, and get it ready to glass!

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Looking good!

As promised, photo from the field today, prior to the successful maiden of it's little brother. Markings represent a Wildcat V from 852 Sqn. assigned to HMS Nabob during the Battle of Norway. Several other planes from my fleet photobombed

Wildcat looks great! Hey, did you pick up the Yellow Aircraft Spit yet?

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Yep! I met up with Tom back on the 21st. At first I wasn't sure I'd be able to get it home in my Terrain, with that one-piece wing! There is probably a small cargo trailer in my future.

Over the winter I'm going to look into some electric retracts, maybe the ones that E-Flite has for their 1/5th scale Spitfire. Also a spinner.

Originally I had intended to get Wayne's AT-6 and/or the Spit flying ASAP so I can start learning the "gas" ropes... but given what our weather tends to be from here on out, I'm going to finish the year 100% electric so I don't have any leftover fuel sitting around. Plus rushing + aviation rarely ends well!
