Re: Post your Rc boat Pics here

I built one of those Midwest Fantail Launches last year. My very first boat and wooden kit build. Back when I was flying, it was all ARFs.

Side view. I painted her in White Star colours.

Steam module installed. These Midwest Model IVs are really too underpowered once you put it in water. The hockey tape is a temporary experiment to try and increase power output by limiting heat loss. It does seem a bit more peppy on dry runs outside the boat. The engine runs on sterno (ethanol) gel. Same stuff they use in chafing dishes. Yes, the drive shaft is a bit long on this one. New shaft because the old one was a bit bent. I cut it a bit too long, so it needs to be trimmed.

Coal box hides ballast, the oar is just for decoration.

Of course with the steam engine being underpowered and generally unreliable, I had to improvise. Behold, the electric module.

The EP module is powered by an Electrifly airplane motor, 25 amp Hobby King ESC, and a 2S battery. I'll eventually replace the ESC with one that's reversable.

Bonus: My Victoria Yacht. She doesn't get out much because there's nowhere near by to sail her.

Steam's certainly neat and pretty unique these days. Still, I mostly run this one on EP. Just way more convenient. There's companies out there that make much better boilers than Midwest's, along with proper compound engines. They can get pretty expensive though.
