sliding to the left

Hey guys here I am with a new noob question. I got everything set up on my blade 400 and put some training gear on and attempted a hover test last night. I found that I had to sub trim my throttle to stop the motor from spooling up the second it has been armed. Also I found the heli wanting to slide to the left at the smallest amount of lift. Now I didn't check the tracking last night as it was getting dark. Is it normal to have to trim it all this much or should I work at fine tuning the control rods?

Thanks

- Jeff

Re: sliding to the left

Everytime I put together a heli I have adjust trims, pitch and throttle for about twelve battery packs till I get it just about right. Having to adjust a flybarred heli right out of the box is the norm in my opinion.

Re: sliding to the left

Don't trim the slide out as that's normal during take off. You have to learn to counter it until you get it up in the air.

The reason it slides left is due to the thrust from the tail blades, once you're in the air it pretty much disappears except you see a slight lean to the heli.

Suggest you try Radds School of Rotory flight.

In terms of setting up, always set up it as mechanically perfect as possible and use the radio to get that last little bit. Also, don't use trim, use sub-trim instead. Trim affects the range as it moves the entire range up or down. Sub-trim just changes a single servo but leaves the total range alone. The reason for this is if you use trim for one function it will affect where the end point of the function is. This is because of the way eccpm works.

Re: sliding to the left

What radio system do you have? With my Futaba the only trim it labels are the trim tabs swash, curve, dual rates and endpoints are the other adjustments. How badly does it go to the left is it aggressive or just always wants to go that way?

Re: sliding to the left

I would go to Horizon Hobby's web site and look at the Bind N' Fly manual for the Blade 450 Basic. It may have programming listed in it for setting up the DX7 and that is what you may be having trouble with. I have setup many Blade 400's and they are fairly simple but they can be cantankerous at times. I am going to the Indoor Fly in Mississauga tonight and I even have a Blade 400 in my car all set to fly (too big for this place to fly it, though) and there will be a couple of guys that can help you out. It really sounds like you need to do some more practise getting comfortable with it and like said, add a bit of right collective to counteract the push. The balls can work for you but in the long run, they will make things difficult, especially if they catch while landing in the grass. Take care.

Re: sliding to the left

Thanks for the help guys! I have been away for a while and forgot to check back here. As it turns out my mechanical setup was all buggered.
