Hi Ron,
I never heard that. But it is definately a good idea to go fly it with other experienced Jet guys for the first few flights

Just read the minutes from the 2010 AGM
http://www.maac.ca/docs/2010/2010_je...tee_report.pdf

It mentions a training and certification may happen in the future. But not at this time

Re: deos a new turbine flyer need maac certificate?

To my knowledge there is no certification to fly turbine aircraft in Canada. Just hook up with someone knowledgeable about them and follow all of the recommended safety protocols. If u wish to fly in the US then yes you will need further documentation, get in touch with your local jet committee or contact Kelly Williams the jet chairman nobody knows what's happening with that except them.

The report submitted at the beginning of 2011 states pretty well the same thing. Once the MAAC AGM happens next month, you'll probably see the newer report posted. Over the years, some have suggested we investigate a US-style 'waiver' system, but the answer is effectively 'not yet', knowing 'not yet' could mean 'indefinitely' so long as we keep going as we are.

Canadian jet pilots flying turbines tend to be a very safety conscious crowd from what most will see and hear, and we have a good safety record as a result. Of coarse, external factors could come into play, but there's nothing specifically driving us in the direction of a waiver for flying a turbine in Canada.

Best of luck Ron. Please take advantage of the crowd of excellent turbine pilots in the country though. We're all here to help you!
