Gas truck Highlights and the points series after Izzy's
Last weekend was another exciting chapter in the Nova Scotia 1/10 gas truck points series.
THe racing was very fast and highflying at Izzy's Off-Road RC. THe track consisted of a long straight followed by a large left hand sweeper. As soon as you came out of the sweeper you had to get set up for a large triple, failing to properly setup meant that you met with disaster. You would either fly off the track into the long grass, or nose it into the landing ramp. Either way, it usually meant getting passed to position. After the triple was a short bit of straight that took you to a tight 180 degree corner. THis corner was very rutted and bumpy and was the site of more than a few roll overs. Coming out of this corner you were met with a challenging double. THe landing ramp was slightly higher than the take-off ramp. If you didn't gain enough speed before the ramp you nosed into the landing ramp. After this obstacle was tackled you came to a bowled out 90 degree turn into a tight technical section which consisted of a couple of tight corners, a 16 inch straight drop, an off-camber 180 into a very rutted 180 and then back onto the front straight. The racing consisted of 3 rounds of qualifying followed by a 5 minute B-main and a 15 min A-main. THe qualifying heats took their tole on a few trucks and we had 3 DNS's for the mains. Many people had tuning issues early in the racing but were able to get that sorted out. At the end of qualifying Mike Coady was TQ, followed by Dave Iverack, Chris Alcott, Rick Ryan and Dave Parks. THese 5 Drivers made up the A-main event of the afternoon. The B-main was the spectator race of the day. Dave Israel(track owner) and Richard ramsay battled wheel to wheel for about 8-9 laps before a bobble by Richard gave Dave a good lead. Dave finished the race 1 lap upo on Richard for the win. Richard took second followed by Adam. The A-main was quite eventful. Mike Coady took the early lead and was setting a fast pace (1.5-2 seconds better) for the race until sitting upside down too long after a rollover caused him to flame out. He got restarted and came back out in 3rd.THis gave the lead to Rick Ryan and he never looked back. Rick ran a steady, trouble free race to take the win. After Filter trouble ended Chris's race 3 minutes early, second came to Mike Coady who had wheel issues during the main and had to leave the stand to change a poorly glued rear tire. After all the dust settled and the points were tallied, here is how we stand: Chris Alcott 376 Mike Coady 376 Dave Iverack 350 Rick Ryan 345 Don Ross 340 Dave Isreal 340 Geoff Davis 330 Dave Parks 325 Richard Ramsey 305 Adam ? 295 Michel Lamontagne 200 Shane Foote 160 Roland Bourque 155 Marty Jefferies 150 THe next timed event is to be held in Moncton. To keep things fair for those that cannot make each event, 2 events will be dropped, each racers worst AND best races will be dropped from the standings. THat way you will not be penalized for missing one event. Miss more than one though and you have quite a hill to climb. Tune in next week for the events at the Moncton track. Mike |
