Can anyone give me any suggestions on a set of servos for a 1/8 nitro buggy?

I just searched through Tower Hobbies for an hour, and there are HUNDREDS, and was just curious to know what works for you. High torque? Digital? Coreless? Brushless?

I've never had to buy servos before since all my previous kits have been RTR.

I would think a Hitec 900 or 5900, (digital) series would work fine. The 925/945 are extremely quick and powerful, the digitals even more so. I have 5925 as the tail rotor servo on my TREX 600.

The only concern is digital servos can draw much higher currents under load or stalled.

You need a high torque servo for both steering and throddle 200 oz plus for both.

throddle you need it for the brakes to stop the buggy.

steering both speed and torque is needed if you are racing.

Go with the best your pocket book will take. you can use around a 133 oz ht 645 servo for the steering yet don't skimp on the brakes as none wants to get hit with a runaway buggy.

What radio are you using BTW?

I'd say try that at your own risk... I tried the 995MG servos once... what a waste of money. I won't buy no name chinese servos ever again. The gears were so heavy that it was wayyyy slower than the spec said, couldn't center worth a damn and drew a lot of current.

Buy the best you can afford. The Hitec 5995 and newer 7995 have always been popular.

Thanks for everyone's input... It's helping my out a bunch. I know I needed higher torque servo for steering,but didn't know it was so important for throttle/brakes.

It's a Futaba 3PL by the way. I like it a lot as it has abilities to store all sorts of different models in its memory.

Would around $120-140 get me a decent set of servos? I was looking at some of the Hitec models, as Cougar429 suggested and they seem to be a pretty good bang for the buck.

They would be going into an RC8B, by the way, which is somewhere now between Chicago and my house.

You will be fine with the ht645mg or the ht5645mg 133oz at 6v ( digital ) for steering. around $50 tax in


For Throd a 645 will work yet if it is in you budget get a ht 7954sh as it has 333oz at 6v

Or find some nice used ones. There are always servos for sale on here, the other sites, and ebay.

Thanks fellas. Picked up a couple of HS-645MG. I figure it'll be a good starting point that won't break the bank.
