Sapac Gripen build with modifications....
I have been offered a nib Sapac Gripen model as a airframe. I have a Freewing 90mm EDF unit with 1750Kv motor balanced n installed that I want to install in it. From what I have seen videos and read about these is most guys fly it on 70mm edfs but being such a big aircraft, I'm sure 90mm can be installed in it. I would also add retracts on it and would like to know who has done 90mm setup on these Gripen.

Re: Thinking about getting a Sapac Grippen
Yes true but after flying my eurofighter Typhoon on 90mm I can't see myself flying same size model with less power...na na no way hozay It will least be powered by 90mm even if I don't add retracts on it, knowing myself I will have them on it.... I'm a scale builder and a flyer...

Re: Thinking about getting a Sapac Grippen
You will have to remove a fair bit of material to fit a 90mm and might ruin a nice model. The plane flew well on an elite 80mm fan on 6s when my father and I built one. The sound was the only thing we didn't like about it.
If you want a 90 size model, there are still plenty out there to choose from that will go together with less modification. JC has a point, sell it to him and use the funds to buy a Flyfly kit!

Re: Thinking about getting a Sapac Grippen
Hey Eric, where do you get FlyFly kits these days. I have been fumbling along in the hobby now for a few summers. Not giving up, but, having trouble keeping my interest. I still had the most fun ever with my original Foam Sabre, and those turbines I tried and abandoned were an expensive lesson. You and your team are the acknowledged experts now and your advice is always valued. Might be time to go with a fun foamie again.
Best Regards Bob |

Re: Thinking about getting a Sapac Grippen
Hi Bob,
Glad you are returning from the "dark side" to fly some fun and really stress free models! We also loved the Sabre so much we built our second! A classic model for sure thanks to its size and nice flying qualities on 6s. Hobby88 is essentially Flyfly direct order web site. Personally I wouldn't order anything but the kit versions of their planes as their hardware is rather out dated and low in power. http://www.hobby88.com/shop/index.ph...b3cc7b27696964 Findhobby has some models too. Also best to search around their site to discover their kit versions. Can't post link for FH... You have to google it. RCCastle and Hobbyparadise also some good finds. And if you have a U.S. Postal box MotionRC is great. Cheers Eric The camo version is another club members who is hooked on Jets too! PS Sorry for the drift....

Re: Thinking about getting a Sapac Grippen
No worries Eric, all good here. If I did indeed ended up getting the Gripping then I'll consider advises on here. It's sounding like a very good model n a stable flyer.
Bob, What happened to the FlyFly Mirage 2000 kit I sold you couple years ago, did you managed to fly it... Turbines are expansive no doubt but it's something I really want to do and experience it first hand for many years!. Looks like this time I will get one of the smaller ones to fly my Marcel Mirage 2000 and F104 Starfighter.

Re: Thinking about getting a Sapac Grippen
They are 60" inch span.
Big model! Flies nice but keep it light if you wish to go 6s.

Re: Thinking about getting a Sapac Grippen
I will have Gripen towards the end of the month. I'm thinking on picking up eflite 15-25 size servoless retracts for it, would they work on this model let's say with 90mm EDF unit on 6s 5000 lipo battery.
