Re: Why buy those expensive HobbyKing receivers? :)

Thought I would let everyone know I got two of these. Range checked at 10feet with my dx6i, sent back got two new and one checked at 10 feet one at 22 feet. Put the better one on my stinger 10 and lost signal and plane. They are not real ar6100 they are a knock off. That said others have had success.
I now use them indoors with no problems.

Unhappy Re: Why buy those expensive HobbyKing receivers? :)

Around here lots of people are shopping on the web and saving a pile of money - there are deals to be had in Hong Kong.

HOWEVER;
One fellow bought a .70 Four Stoke for $120.00 +S&H = $170.00 someday he hopes that it'll run...
Another fellow bought a receiver and installed it in an old plane - it crashed 1 minute into the flight.
The stories go on.

YES! There are a lot of people with happy stories, and then there are the others that we rarely hear about.

If you are dealing with disposable foamies... be happy. You have little to loose.
If you have a winter's worth of building riding on a radio wave... be cautious.

IMHO

Rarely hear about? We must be looking at different internets.... all I ever seem to see is threads about how "I crashed and it was all because of brand X, now they won't replace everything so I'm making it my mission to smear them online"..... Some say I'm a cynic though :P.

Re: Why buy those expensive HobbyKing receivers? :)

The only Hobbyking products that are worth buying are the 5 cell LiPo batteries, and the electric motors.

The target hobby Rx's in particular seem to be getting beaten down on some forums. Given the price I doubt they're actual Spektrum units - if the price is too good to be true, it probably is.

I would quite a few more items to that list. I have bought a bunch of stuff and have yet to have a dud or bad product.

heat shrink, covering material, wire, servos, servo extensions, battery connectors, speed controllers, wattmeters, cheap battery chargers, ..

The list goes on for quite a while. The $15 hobbyking spektrum RX's have gotten very good reviews on rcgroups unlike these products.

I don't want to be a hobbyking cheerleader but for some reason people keep shooting the company down.

Well, if it doesn't work it's not worth $8
