When I first saw that, I thought it looked similar to the b-2 stealth bomber. Just the way the wing blends into the fuselage.

Kevin, flying wings and lifting bodies are not the same. Here is a link to the Dryden Flight center and lifting bodies.

Check out the latest issue of POPULAR SCIENCE, there is a good article about these types of aircraft, and several articles about the future of aviation- fascinating

Planes, Pedals, and Motorcycles! (In that order!)

I stopped being politically correct when I found out that some people were offended by it.

I just came from the news stand where I saw the article that Maurice mentions. It's a bit of a coincidence to come across the topic in Popular Science. There are pictures of other designs as well as the subject aircraft.

Basically they took the lifting body and flying wing technology blended it together into what is called BWB's(blended wing body) The B2 was the first successful aircraft mainly because of computers. The flying wing and lifting body were found to be just to unstable for a mere mortal to fly safely. The computer has made it possible.

There is another article of interest as well. "Has the US lost it's edge in Aviation?"

Another problem that they were having with this design is how to pressurize it. You need that cylindrical shape to pressurize the cabin.

By the way there is a short writeup about Maynard Hill's Atlantic flight in the Nov. issue of Popular Science. "The Mylar Miracle" page 38.
