What's the best way to pull out the glow plug element?

I'm getting a little thin in the wallet lately. I have tried to pul the glow element out of my Rossi 8 plugs and half of them break

I heat the plug with my glow driver first and then use a pin to pull the element out. Is there a better way?

Thanks
Peter D.

Hey Peter!

You are right about getting the element good and hot first, then SLOWLY bring down the temperature with the driver. Take a pin or exacto blade and carefully and slowly pull the top two coils TOGETHER out of the body of the plug. As they come out gently pull on what was the inner coil of the two. You should be able to pull it out 1/8 inch without it breaking.

Peter, I simply use a tooth pick to lever plug elements, no need to pre-heat I have found.... I have tried many brands and most plugs work ok Rossi # 8 seems to have heavier duty thicker element wire, this seems to be only real reason the Rossi may last longer and is the recommended plug of choice...

Marty must have shares in the glow plug business !!.....
that's why he doesn't want you heat and slowly cool the element.

The anneal process is VERY IMPORTANT prior to pulling on the coil. The purpose is to soften and de-stress the coil so that it does NOT break when you stretch it out. The Rossi 8 is indeed an excellent plug and the coil thickness is sufficient where you may get away without heating. Try that on an OS A3 and the chances are you will pull the coil away from the body of the plug.

If you continue to have problems Peter...send them to me - I have done lots over the years for RAM, JetCAT and PST customers.

I wish!!! No I just never have once had an issue with elements breaking if carefully pried out using a wooden tooth pick, annealing helps of course that said but facts are it is not really necessary I have found with Rossi, O.S. and the others I have used ... maybe I just have the gentle touch

plug

Hey adaptable

Instead of pulling my hair out I use a glow plug

If the element is pulled out the turbine will ignite the propane more consistently.

You know for an electric kind of guy you sure ask a lot of turbine questions. Is there something we need to know?
