A lot of you seem to be have been doing this for a long time, and as a result your builds are augmented with foam chunks, rubber, and other materials you can't normally find at a hobby store. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for places to get these extra material.

I'll start with a suggestion. If you ever need wiring the junkyards around the GTA have plenty of smashed up cars. I tend to grab wires from the part of the vehicle that was wrecked in the collision. They're usually the least desirable places on the junkers for people looking for parts.

I find being new to the hobby myself is to join a club and start going to swap meets and as funny as it sounds just ask people if they have any spare parts you can buy off of them. You may not use all of it but you will definitely build a collection and possibly you will end up being the person to help a new flyer in the future.

Sourcing depends on what you are looking for. Over the years I found stripping old printers and copiers to provide a great and varied supply of screws, switches, springs and hardened shafts of different diameters.

As for wiring, autos may have what you can use, but that tends to be less flexible and heavier than required for our hobby.

That's actually a great idea, I would have never thought to use old electronics for RC parts, may just have to drive past a few E-waste bins lol funny enough there's actually a fine for that!
