Oh man that's a sickening thought!!!! All that foam snowing down is something I want to avoid at all costs!

My order from thunderbolt shipped this AM so this weekend I need to get pretty close to done if I want to maiden it next week. I may fabricate some temporary wood standoffs for the engine so I can get the cowl mounted and cut tonight, Friday is supposed to be warm so I want to get that cowl painted.

Re: Byron Christen Eagle - Moki 2.1

Really neat project! I used to have a Byron Pitts and I still kick myself for selling it!

Byron had the coolest engine mount available. It was basically a steel bar that slid in and out of two fibreglass plates. It could be adjusted for the appropriate engine length. Made mounting a variety of engines very easy.

I flew mine originally with a Moki 1.8, then Moki 2.1 and finally a 50cc gasser.

The scale outline can't be duplicated with wood, I just love that big fat foam fuselage!

Best of luck with it.

Mike

Moving along slowly, standoffs and servos waiting at the post office to pickup. Weather looks awful for the next 5 days, good time to stay inside and finish this up.

I installed the tail wires this AM and thought I would share some pics, I've used this method on my last three planes and really like it.

Basically it is a 4-40 bolt with strip aileron horns threaded onto either side...

Re: Byron Christen Eagle - Moki 2.1

Sorry about the multiple posts, can't seem to attach more than one picture to a post on my iPhone.

Once the bolts and horns are installed through the hardpoints in the stab and fin I use standard 2-56 rod and clevises. Super easy, cheap and readily available AND very strong!

Rich.

Re: Byron Christen Eagle - Moki 2.1

After a couple trips to the hobby shop I got everything to finish this bird up. Just need to install the RX, battery and finish programming the radio. I will be replacing the wheels that came with the kit, they are the DuBro big wheels and are super heavy, but that will be after the maiden....hoping for Sunday afternoon. The plane balances out perfectly with the Moki, I was a little worried since I have 3 servos in the tail.

they come with rib lines, etc all molded into the foam. A bit frustrating to work with but in the end not a bad flying airframe. Hard to keep it looking good though, the foam dings easy....ron

Re: Byron Christen Eagle - Moki 2.1

Got it all buttoned up this AM, can't wait to get her in the air. I'm really happy that I decided to finish this plane up, it came out pretty well considering its a giant foamie! Now that this is done I will get my 42% Weeks Solution ready to go again, then it's onto my winter builds.
