So... you giving the neighbourhood kids rides in that?

1/3 scale.. eh... dat's big!

It's going to look uber cool when it's all done, wish I had the space (or a vehicle to transport) to be able to work on something like that...

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

The fuse uses 5/16" dowels, you can cup the ends with a 5/16" drill bit or fostner bit.The fostner bit works quite nice.I also used a 5/16" grinding stone on a Dremel tool. One can use titebond wood glue or epoxy,I went with 45 minute epoxy.

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Critical stage here getting the two fuse sides lined up nice and square. Then I glued the landing gear supports and the top strut support.Really important to take your time here and triple check your setup before and after glueing .Next will be the bottom wing support and then work back towards the tail with horizontal supports.

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Thought I'd send a few more pics,in between jobs..I also got some fabric from Glenn for the lower top, upper bottom, bottom bottom wings. He also gave me some pinking tapes cut to length.I'm not looking forward to using this stuff, you have to sew sections together and then use nitrate dope to fill the weave(2 coats),and then butyrate dope to tighten the fabric.Glenn has a whole chapter on this procedure,so it should come out ok..the first pic is the inside of the printed fabric.2nd the outside..and some books I got for reference..

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

I'm now working my way towards the tail adding horizontal supports, all of these joints will be pinned with carbon fibre rod.Pretty slow goin here..
Anyone know of a source for a decent spoked wheel 10" in diameter? 9" would be ok.You see a lot of baby buggies around with these really nice spoked wheels.Makes you wonder where you might find em? Walmart maybe?Just measured the Du-bros and they are 9.3"..they will do unless I find something better..

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Got the basic fuse framed up ,thought I'd do a preliminary engine sizeup in the forward fuse area and things look promising.I was worried that it might be too big with the redrive, but it appears to fit ok.Its still early though and I don't have the dummy engine yet. Some of the inside rad area has to be cut away to allow room for the engine.

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Steve I have had to register with this forum as I am also about to start a GTM D.VII. Had the kit a few months but hoping to get started in the next month or so.

It's really great to see someone else building this model as there are not many people out there building them on forums.

I have just purchased the 4 colour fabric for my wings, the fuselage is blue and chocolate brown so no cloth needed there. The dummy engine and a few other bits are due for dispatch next week!

I will be powering it in exactly the same way as you as there re no other reductions available that fit in the housing (Mick was right). I just hope the dummy engine does not interfere with the engine that's all!

I am doing the Sieben Schwaben scheme which should be a bit of a challenge LOL. Whilst I have been waiting I have put over 40 hours into the artwork . . . I must be mad.

I'll check in regularly to see how you are getting on.

Nigel
