Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

While I don't find the looks of the Yak55 as appealing as the Yak54 how do they compare in flight?

Word has it that the Extra 260 is a lot better flyer than the Extra 300 (almost look identical) is this the same with the Yaks? For comparisons sake lets assume they are powered and set up the same.

Brent , good place to enquire on this topic. Here, on the never ending thread. There are several differing opinions. And they are all wrong, until you explain why you think "Your" this, or that is about the best. I interpret that as nearing one of our goals in this hobby. To find pride, enjoyment, and success. Until then the other guy's this, or that may be appealing.
I don't expect that to help much. But when I'm really enjoying an Extra, then 2 months later I might be having a ball with a Sukhoi. I'm really stil at the point of just trying to have the most fun out of any airframe I'm into that week.

So lets try and stay on Brent's topic this eve.

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

I've had the pleasure of the "Flavor (plane) of the month". After the S-Bach splat, I replaced it with a Extra 300 (AeroWorks). Boy did the Extra fly differently, real slippery! Even though the planes were almost identical in span and weight.

I the thread I started over on the construction form, Kip interjected something I hadn't considered, the shape of the leading edge.... this is why I am a bit spectacle about bench testing engines, sure it tells some of the things we're lookin' for, but unless a guy trys out the engines on the same plane, the experiment is mute!

Our buddy Jeff at Thunderbolt quite often does just that, allocating a plane as a Guinea Pig!

Re: The never ending engine thread, East-West

So Dale, the cartel $ from Jeff are what... 2:1 vs those mafia mugs.......
nothing harder than waiting for 2 big boxes from AMR.
On that note, those guys are a class act. Sent email to AMR sat evening in regards to shipping, received a reply back same night..... Wow, deal was done. Free shipping for the 32% decathalon.
Then, on Monday morning, a call from AMR to inform me of shipping. no wonder why these guy's are becoming the giant scale source in Canada............
