Ganged Digitals
Ok....on to the wings now....2 7955 tg's programmed and then y'ed....I read somewhere on FG that it's a good idea to "open" up the dead band a bit so the servos aren't working as hard to center and "fight" each other...Instead of using 1 (which is the tightest DB), I used 3....

I just set mine up a couple weeks ago (same servos). I ended up using a deadband of 2. What I found helpful (and had seen recommended on FG) was to use an amp meter inline with a servo. After programming them, set them up on your radio with the pushrod on one servo disconnected. Then check the amp draw of the other servo that is connected. After you get a reading, re-connect the second servo and test again. You should see the amp draw of the first servo go down. If it goes up, then you know the servos are fighting each other. Then do the same for the other servo. Seemed to work pretty well for me.

I'm with Jason on the AmpMeter... it works incredibly well. I still keep the deadband at "1" and with the AmpMeter, I can still get 0 binding (I shoot for 0.08amp or less, which takes some fidling with deadband of "1" but doable!!)

I've got it down to less than 0.08A at neutral with the wing tip up so there's no gravity effect when ailerons are centered. I'm getting a reading of as high as 0.60Amp at 1 of the full scale deflections...which I get with just a single servo (other mechanically unconnected) or with both servos working together...so I figure it may just be the aileron gets stiff near the endpoint just due to hinging and soforth. Otherwhise the intermediate steps (again with wing tip up to avoid gravity readings) I'm getting 0.15ish amps...
So to make sure I'm getting the jist of this....let say I unhook a servo and hold and maintain full stick in a particular direction, and while holding my servo is eating about 0.15 amp. I then hook up number 2 and together I'm getting 0.4 to 0.5....then I would listen to the noisy one and program a different end point, then rehook it up and see if the readings change? I think I've got how to do the neutral...just checking if that's the way to deal with binding at the end of the throws. This is more challenging than some like to admit.... |

Based on what you said it's not servo binding but stiffness.. I'd fix the stiffness for sure! I'd always try to shoot for 0.08A all over. I've heard some quote 0.2A as their threshold, but to me a high amperage is telling you there's a problem, and the 0.2A is putting stress somewhere in your airframe or linkages so it needs fixing!!!! Yep... takes some time, but nothing is more reassuring in the air when you know everything is 110% Again... JMHO!!! |
