Hobby King is planning to open a Canadian warehouse.

That will really get the shipping costs down and the shipping time should really improve.

Heard about it on this interview.

Hopefully sooner rather than later!

Re: Hobby King Planning to Open Canadian Warehouse

Based on my experiences with Canada post (I'm don't care for their high prices or lack of service) I don't expect too see much of a cost savings on shipping, but faster shipping times will be nice...

Re: Hobby King Planning to Open Canadian Warehouse

I notice there aren't a lot of choices on the "German" or "US" warehouses for the inventory they currently carry...

Perhaps this could be merged with the current HobbyKing Canadian Warehouse discussion?

Re: Hobby King Planning to Open Canadian Warehouse

Well, once it's in canada, they will have to charge tax won't they? But it's so true about the shipping prices within the country. It usually costs more to ship anything within Canada compared to things being shipped from HK. So unless they will use XpressPost or Expedited exclusively at a reasonable price there is really no point. It usually take 5-7 days for me to get stuff from HK anyway so I wouldn't really care where it is coming from.

Re: Hobby King Planning to Open Canadian Warehouse

It typically costs me more to ship to my Canadian customers than it does my US customers.

I've been able to keep shipping costs low for most of my Canadian customers by shipping bubble mailer on small items - and the guys who want it faster have the option of paying the higher rates.

Some shipments, I have to subsidize the cost out of my own profits - but I consider it a cost of doing business and keeping the money in Canada.

You win some, you lose some.

Re: Hobby King Planning to Open Canadian Warehouse

I get the feeling that the traditional super low prices from HK will soon be a thing of the past. Their overhead is going to catch up with them. What's worked in the past for HK is crazy cheap Chinese labour and local product, but when you're operating warehouses in America and dealing with those import taxes, legal fees, warehouse leases, business and labour costs, good luck keeping a cap on the prices.
