Re: 126" Carden Extra260 / MVVS190 - BBT
Just had to post something really funny... my welcome mat and a quick tutorial on how to make your own home-made boots
Those socks have so much paint on the bottom of them that it's like they have a rubber-sole, LOL Pretty awesome when they hold their shape - put the left on the right foot and it feels weeeeiiirrddd |

LOL!!! My feet stay perfectly clean!!!
Probably should consider them a right-off and not put them in the dirty-cloths hamper for Jen |

Re: 126" Carden Extra260 / MVVS190 - BBT
Okay... As I continue to do research and talk to different people about painting/finishing, it became very clear that my missing link has been the finishing.
So I went back to the paint supplies store here in Burlington today and picked up a very sweet variable speed 3M polisher along with the different foam pads and matching compounds. The hard pad uses the gritty cuttimg compound and the soft pad is for the polishing compound. Total cost for the unit and all the goodies was about $400.00, but I'm hoping it'll yield me some good results All the parts shown here have been painted with KlassKote, which claims they can be sanded and buffed to a brilliant shine without a clear coat. |

Re: 126" Carden Extra260 / MVVS190 - BBT
And it works KlassKote buffs right up to a very rich, brilliant shine!! I'm totally impressed with the results Shown in the pictures are Brad's Slick cowl + his white wheel pants and my silver wheel pants for the 260.
I wet-sanded all the parts dull using 1500 and 2000grit. This got 7/8 of the orange peel off. I then buffed and buffed and buffed some more experimenting with different pressures and speeds and level of cutting compound. Sure is a lot more fun than clear-coating and smells better also, LOL Still lots of learning to go, but really happy with the results. |

Re: 126" Carden Extra260 / MVVS190 - BBT
Absolutely Brad! I still plan on clearing overtop of my cowl halves and hatch tomorrow AM and then I'll buff the clear. Doing a clear still gives a nicer finish I think and it blends in the paint edges. But I was pleasantly surprised that KlassKote buffs up that shiney

Re: 126" Carden Extra260 / MVVS190 - BBT
Great job Trev. Just be careful when you wet sand and polish metallic paint as you can mess up the flake ect. Most painters will just wet sand and polish the clear as to not mess with the metallic. Just my 2 cents. Looks great man.
Thanks Mike
