Trex 600 - BLACKOUT
Where to start.
Stock 600L motor 100Amp CC ESC CC BEC Pro This is the setup. I had it on the table with blackouts happening while the BEC was not installed. I put the BEC on and it seemed to stop while bench testing. No motor plugged in at this time. I took it to the field tonight and all was good until I put it in stunt mode and did a couple maneuvers. Shortly after I lost all power and managed to bring it down safely. I lost the landing gear and one mixing arm. all else looks good. How the heck do I find out what went wrong. I have the Castle Flight Log if someone can look at it and make sense of it. I cant upload it here. If you want it let me know and I will send it to you. |

Re: Trex 600 - BLACKOUT
Get rid of that Castle Creation crap and buy a good Hobby King ESC with and external switch and battery. I only have one Heli that uses same battery for motor and electronics and it had a CC esc and fried two seconds after plugging in battery . It had been flown before but had sat on the shelf

Re: Trex 600 - BLACKOUT
Is your esc one that has been recalled?
Puffed two batteries on my 600 today doing light aerobatics. Pulled the 80hv out soon as i got home and it goes in the mail monday. Not sure what caused it but there are only the esc, batterries ,and motor in the equation and the esc is a known problem. T |

Re: Trex 600 - BLACKOUT
I'm going to agree with using a completely seperate battery on a 600 size. I don't beleive that CC is crap btw, that's a statement that's blown out of proportion due to their current problems. no company is perfect... look at the toyota recalls in the last couple of years.... I'd still trust them over most though.
Keep in mind, at least CC is doing a recall, if a known problem is found with HK escs, of which there are a few, do you think they would recall? BTW crane, you need to list all the components which use power... especially servos. A binding or stuck servo can easily over power a bec.

Re: Trex 600 - BLACKOUT
good point. I have been told to use a battery by a few experienced people. Don't ask me why I went with a bec. I think I wanted the cleaner look and another add on. Now look its broke! I thought 10Amps would be plenty. If in fact its the BEC and not the ESC.

Re: Trex 600 - BLACKOUT
I can't really say which it is but it does sound like your battery is not able to supply the required power for both the motor and the electronics. Regardless of whether you're using a separate bec or not, all the power is coming from one battery. A higher load on one end will affect the power available on the other end. I use a separate bec on my 500's but on my 550's I use a separate battery with regulator.

Re: Trex 600 - BLACKOUT
I would tend to suspect the motor more than than esc if the bec is still functioning and you are not getting a burned smell from the esc.
In the motors I have burned out (or have burned out out on me!) you can generally tell by looking at the windings where they are exposed. You may see some very small metalic beads or darkening of the coils. It only has to be a tiny spot - the esc will sense it and shut down the motor. It is the coils shorting at that point. The beads are molten coil. You may need a magnifying glass. The problem can be intermittant. Comes and goes but always get worse. A slight loss of power is generally just noticable as the motor begins to fail. A possibility T |

Re: Trex 600 - BLACKOUT
Craneman is running a thunder power 6s 5000mah and a cc pro 10 amp continious 20 amp burst bec. I have been talking to him and I had problems with mine browning out my receiver it had a 10 amp bec. Mine was browning out on the bench with no blades with rapid servo movement. I had sudjested that he go with a seprate battery as well. I personaly went with a 2 cell li-ion pack as I needed weight in the front to get it to balance.

Re: Trex 600 - BLACKOUT
Only thing I can add are recommendations on a few places to chedk.
First is to confirm which version of the BEC Pro you have. Apparently there is a recall on the earlier models due to a loose component(s) issue: http://www.castlecreations.com/suppo...-ccbecpro.html Note: I'm still waiting for a reply regarding mine. All I can find is a REV 2 sticker. I assume it's the version 2. Just want to be sure. Second also concerns the BEC. The specs posted are with the BEC in good cooling airflow. If sitting in stagnant air it can provide much less output current than you would expect. On a final note, if you are attempting to draw from only one source, the amount of current to the radio system could be compromised not by the BEC circuitry, but by the fact the motor system has already pushed the battery output close to the limits. For example, if the battery can only provide 80 amps and the main power system is already pulling close to 70A, any additional load on it will mean something else has to sacrifice. In this case a gust of wind, rapid throttle changes or even a good jolt on the controls can mean you are asking for more than the battery can supply. Another factor could be internal battery heating during discharge. I too was looking into running both the power and radio system from one battery to reduce weight on the T600. Ultimately, for the sake of my typically overriding factor of reliability, I opted to remain with the secondary flight system battery. In this case I did increase capacity. Not much added weight, but the comfort level increased, as well. Funny, for all this work here I ended up right back with the same type setup Align provided in the kit. I did opt to upgrade to the ICE 100A ESC, though not the LITE. In the case of the BEC I have the MPI rig. The BEC Pro is in the Harvard
