What glue for coroplast?
Hey guys, I have a coroplast flying saucer that basically disbonded over
time (read years...) and I want to put it back togheter, originally I used contact cement but there has to be a better and less obnoxious option out there! My wife used to be a real estate agent and her coroplast 'for sale' signs had a clear rtv type glue, the coroplast actually breaks before the glue gives up, now thats what I want! Jack. Any ressemblance to the drawing is pure coincidence... |

Re: What glue for coroplast?
For the last couple of my dogfighters, I used my hot glue gun and it has been holding OK. The gun is an Arrow which I got from Home Depot. You can get glue sticks with slower set-up so you have a bit more time when assembling.
I mark the parts for alignment, put a generous bead on the joint, assemble and hold and then run a fillet on overlap edges (eg: where tailfeathers meet the fuselage or where the upper/lower wing panels overlap). Boomer |

Re: What glue for coroplast?
As best you can, roughen up the surfaces to bo glues with 90 or 100 grit sandpaper, then use a polyurethane glue on the corro. Clamp together (the glue foams up some when activated with moisture). Gorilla Glue and the Elmer brand are two brands of it.

Not just for foam, works great on plastics.

Re: What glue for coroplast?
Hi,
I use the polyurethane glue, same as Gorilla glue - Home Depot has the same thing under the brand name Elmer's. Rough up with course sandpaper then put a very thin coat of the glue on, give a light misting of water from a spray bottle, put together and clamp or put weight on it. The glue will expand out the seams when curing - most expansion happens in the first hour or two and is easily wiped up, after that it won't clean up easily. If you put masking tape on the surface around the seams, it will go in the masking tape and will clean up easier. I'd sure like to know the name of the glue your wife's sign maker uses, any chance of asking him? Hope this helps. Fly4Fun, Wayne |

Go to the site in my signature. I've got a download of about 4-5 pages of hints on how to glue (gathered from the original spad website)

Re: What glue for coroplast?
I'm into combat and the best so far is Med CA!..... Use some flash to kick it and will never let go. Make sure to give it a light sanding first with a fine grit sandpaper.
I've had where the coroplast ripped before it debonded a glue joint, with combat we are not easy on them either. On the bottom of my spitfire wing I CA the oil cooler scoops in place, never and I mean never have them come off from a landing! John |
