Keep in mind there is also another screen buried under the felt. It can sometimes clog and some people seem to blame the fibres from the clunk plugging up passages in the carb. If you double filter your gas (i.e. air stone type pickup in the gas can and then another in-line filter in the fill line) you don't need the filtering of the felt clunk and it can potentially cause problems. Perhaps if you replace the felt clunk every year you can reduce any issues.

Now - having said all this - if you ask 10 guys you will get likely get three different answers or opinions. I know when some of the top aerobatic guys around here found out I was using a felt clunk they told me emphatically to "get rid of the damn thing".

Only mentioning this to add to the usual confusion of what is best or not. Other opinions will no doubt conflict with what I said.

I have used felt clunks for about 2 years now. I like the fact that the felt clunk only needs to hit the fuel every few seconds to replenish the fuel absorbed onto the felt.

I even flew twice without fueling once (accident), did rolling harriers until moments before landing on that second flight. When I landed and shut the plane off there was not 3 drops of fuel left in the tank. The felt absorbed all the splashing fuel. Dano has a short vid to prove. This should have been a crashed plane for sure but the felt saved the plane. I did look at a couple carb screens and did not see any felt fibers at the carb screen. I think there is also many types of felt clunks. The type fortitude uses does not seem to allow felt fibers to go any where.

Saying that the Aeroplus tanks come with a heavy normal clunk. I carry felt clunks to put in the fuel tanks for those that like felt.

I love dales hype tank setup. He always lands with one tank completely full.

Really I defy 98% of pilots to tell the difference CG wise. But each to his own. I can however see dual tanks to be useful with 200 cc motors and above.

I don't think a jet would ever require a felt clunk. Down lines only last for seconds and the jets have a header tank.

Dale - I use nylon wrong nuts on my Suk also. I got fed up with the standard nylon bolts and put studs into the wing. I use neoprene backed washers under the nylon wing nuts and they seem to hold better - but clumsy a bit.

Do you have the studs drilled for those clips ? I learned to hate those clips when I used to fly Aeroworks all the time.

Dales Hype tanks is just a header tank set-up. While one tank empties it keeps the second tank full. Not bashing your set-up Dale I think it's a great idea!!

That is where a little header tank that stays full like in a heli would help.
