Silhouette Cameo cutting problem

I've just installed V3 of the Silhouette cutting software on my PC (Windows XP) and have encountered a serious problem with the cutting file:

My Cameo machine is remote from my PC so I save my files to an SD card to use in the machine. When I saved a file using V3 of the software the cutter seemed to ignore my cut settings (speed 1, thickness 1) and went at high speed right through the Solartrim and its backing paper, and into the cutting mat. By the time I'd switched off power to the machine, the logo I was cutting was wrapped around the cutter and rollers

At first I thought my machine had developed a problem, but then I used a file for another logo, which I'd saved to the SD card before I installed V3 software, and the machine behaved normally.

I've alerted Silhouette, and they've advised me to uninstall V3 and go back to V2.9 while they sort out the problem. I've done this, but now the two files that I worked on using V3 are not readable by V2.9, so I have to wait for a working V3 to use them again

Note that I haven't connected my cutter to my PC using a cable, so I don't know if this problem exists when you're cutting that way, with cut settings set on screen, rather than on the cutter.

Thanks for the heads up Chris!!!

I have not upgraded as yet. Too damn busy.

Has anyone on RCC done the upgrade to V3 yet?

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

Hi, I have updated to V3 earlier this week with no issues with design or cutting. I have a laptop with Windows Vista, and the cutter is hooked up via USB cable. I haven't tried using a SD card.

I have been following this thread for a while, which convinced me to buy a Silhouette Cameo as few months ago. I am just finishing up a graphics set for my 30cc Pilot Extra 330SC. I'll post pictures when it's done.

Thanks Chris. I haven't updated yet, and now am concerned about doing so. I'll hold off for a bit to see what Silhouette comes up with in the way of a bug fix.

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

I was wondering why he couldn't read the files created on V3 using the V2.9 software. You wouldn't think there would be that much of an issue. I am assuming you can read files in V3 that were created in V2.9.

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

Did the Ver 3 update again and had it working for 1 project. After that the software just keep on freezing. Going back to Ver 2.9 software. Has anybody got it working consistently?

I am assuming by no one replying, that there is a bit of hesitation of upgrading to Version 3 in the air. Not seeing any new revisions on the site either. I would like to see some of the new features but not willing to break what is working fine on the computer now!

New software releases are shown here on the Silhouette site.

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

Hey Chris, I'm with you.

I haven't upgraded as this version works fine for me as-is, right now.

but, I also, haven't had any time to do much hobby related playing at all lately.

Going to start playing with this machine again next week.

more to come

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

It is well worth the upgrade as is gives you more tools and options but if it doesn't work whats the point.

Re: Vinyl Graphics Cutters

More issues with V3 posted on RC Groups in the thread I posted earlier.

Chris

-------------------------------------------------

Silhouette V3 problems
Glad to see I'm not the only one with issues. I was very disappointed I installed the V3 and when I tried to cut a design from a purchased Silhouette shape it was all over the place. It cut north of the matt and it didn't cut the pattern as it went everywhere. I stopped and tried a very simple pattern. Again, major problems.
I re-booted my machine and tired again. Nope - still a problem. I looked for the calibration option and I could not find one. Fustrated I email the Silhouette Support folks. First they sent me an email instruction me to change the packett size under the "File" menu. No such option exists. Spent an hour looking at every button. Emailed them again. This time they told me to uninstall the V3 and re-install the older version. This was even more alarming as they did not offer a fix.
I told them again where was the calibration option. They replied they forgot to include that feature in the new release so they are correcting it. They also told me to check back in a week on their site for the updated version of the V3. I would recommend that if you have not updated to V3 - "don't" I really hope they fix these issues. I really like what the Silhouette does but very dissappointed in the cost of the machine, the software, the matts, tools, media, designs, etc. only to be told "check back in a week" or go back to the old revision.
