Lanier Edge VS H9 Edge

Hi all. I am in the market for a 1/4 scale or slightly larger Edge 540 to put a ZDZ 40 into. I am leaning towards the H9 Edge 540, but after seeing a friends Lanier 33% I am wondering if their smaller one might be a better choice for me. Comments are appreciated.

Try a Aero Works 29% edge 540 .I believe it is 84 inch span and with a zdz 40 could come in around 13-14 pounds. You would have great performance from the combo I bet . IMO this would be a good combo, better than the Hanger 9 for sure

Another great choice (prob better than the aero works 29%) would be a Dave Patrick models edge 540T arf . Here is the link to his web site. I have seen the extra 330l arf fly with a ZDZ 40 and it was a great combo also.

The only problem with Dave Patrick is he "customer service". Good Luck if you order from them directly.

Edge question

I am wondering why no one has said anything about the H9 Edge. what are some experiences with it? I still think it's the best looking Edge out there.

Lee,

The bad news is no one sells Aeroworks in Canada

I have the .60/.90 540T ARF and it's an awesome performer. I only have 7 flights on it so far but I must say I was impressed with it.

It's modestly overpowerd with the YS1.20 at 8 pounds. I did replace the gear and metal hinges that come with the kit and did a few minor mods servos in tail, reinforced tail etc.

If the quality of the 'small' one is any indication of the larger ones you'll be very happy with an Aeroworks kit or ARF.

Another 80" 540 that is nice match for a ZDZ 40 is the one from D&L Designs http://www.dldesigns.net/

The Hanger 9 Edge is a great deal for the money.
Goes together easy and is very light.
If using a gasser, I would pin the firewall. Might as well beef up the landing gear area as well.
Although I have not flown one, I know several people that have, and they say they fly great.

Lanier Edge - which one?

There are two Lanier Edges.

1/4 scale Edge 540 T is 73" and will require a 120 2-stroke or 4-stroke.

30% Edge 540T is 90" span and requires a 60 cc gas engine at least (mine has a ZDZ 80 single in it).

The 30% Edge is beautiful, and nothing wrong with the ultracote covering. I've heard that the 1/4 scale edge flies really well, but the covering can be a slight problem (perhaps not though...)

Depends on what price range you are looking at. the 30% will be $2500 in the air, the 1/4 will be $1000 in the air.
