Re: electric powered sailplane

Did you get anything yet Bill? I am really getting the bug for a big E-soarer and these unflyable winter nights and online research are getting the best of me. I think I am down to a #1 choice being the Valenta Sharon 4200. I even called Soaring USA to check for colors and inventory. Luckily they didn't have any but are expecting a shipment in 4-6 weeks. My other choices were the Xplorer 4.0 but I don't like that F3J stick fuse. Also heavily considered is the Thermik XXXL 5.0m. There is a new version of the XXXL with a bigger and better looking rudder, as wel las an updated stab. The XXXL is a beast though with spoilers and quad flaps.

On http://www.rc-network.de/forum/showt...eite.../page17 read post #241 and #248 almost brought me to tears reading such a beautiful description of a sailplane. At SUSA they have no control over the colors in the shipment, I hope there is one I like and nobody beats me to it. I think I just shot myself in the foot, how do I delete this post?

Re: electric powered sailplane

Yes I did Jan, a Scorpio Condor Magic 2.9
All set to go just bind and fly, used but well looked after. Couple small repairs but she's all set to go. I think I will wait and maiden the bird when the weather warms up a little.

Re: electric powered sailplane

Jan, you are a sick man

Don't you have a Shadow that you can convert to electric? Or is it not BIF enough?

The Sharon is sure shinny...but it is not red!

Oh boy, the Shadow is 15 years old! I suppose its BIF enough. Not sure it will Rip the Bring anymore. I did actually try it as an electric with a Hacker 12XL on 3S with a Graupner 11x7. Climb was gay just like the Shadow. Seriously though, I thought about refurbing that idea with a more powerful set-up. Its still a decent sailplane, I've done so much with that thing. Thermal, slope, aerotow.

I wouldn't want a red sailplane anyways, I'm anxious to see what colors Susa gets. Apparently the get many like the ugly white, blue, red scheme on the website.

Re: electric powered sailplane

Hi Bill

The Kingston club had a Winter Fun Fly Day today and I got brave and took out my e-glider. To my surprise did find some good lift over the bush. This glider is an iCare Magellan that I converted to electric. Has a great speed range.

Hope to hook up sometime soon. Will bring my gliders with me.

Richard

Re: electric powered sailplane

That's nice Richard, glad you got out as well. We were going out today to test fly my friends new Radian Pro but he chickened out
Just stayed in the shop and did some covering.

Looking forward to you coming down when things get a bit warmer and an early spring IS predicted

Re: electric powered sailplane

I've been flying my EasyGlider Pro recently with some amazing thermals! I flew yesterday morning at -12C and only used 700mah on my 2s lipo for over 40minutes of flying. I had over 20 minutes on one climb. I had to call it early because we had to give my daughter a ride.

Re: electric powered sailplane

Well I gave SoaringUsa my CC # tonight for my Sharon 4200 (165" span). I got an electric version and they only have the website color. They ordered 4 in October and will be receiving them in about 10 days. I had to pay half up front. I was tempted to get the Thermik XXXL 5m but its just too complicated with spoilers and quad flaps. Its stronger but a big jump in weight, I think the Sharon will work lighter air better.
