Tilmann, it is very helpful to get information from the people who dope airframes for a living. They have to know how to do it reliably without problems.

I wish I had spoken to the professionals before I covered my lower wing surfaces, but hopefully others can avoid such problems now I have shared my findings.

re covering with Lozenge you're basically posting the same (pictures) as I did in RCSB in my Loewenhardt thread which shows that the same problems prevail .

I would not wash the fabric, though!! Why? Except you'd got these bothering wrinkles.
I fould it completely sufficient to water the fabric after glueing on! The risk of wrinkels then is zero and the effect of moderate preshrinking is exactly the same as in the washing machine!

Tilmann, I suspect the pictures would be similar to yours, but as you know I have posted all of my build on my web site for some time. I have had to do some catching up because I have not updated since I covered the wings.

I painted the insignia on the wings this weekend and added all the stencils. I will be installing the radio equipment next week.

I washed the fabric because two people I know washed their fabric to make it more supple without any problems. Well I discovered that it was a mistake for me. The fabric was ruined. When the second delivery of fabric arrived it went no where near the washing machine. It worked fine without washing so all was good second time round.

I mentioned it on my build because there are many people believe you should wash the fabric. I am sending a clear message out that it is not necessary, and can ruin the fabric. It might save someone making the same mistake as I did!

You can see in the pictures below how one wash can do so much damage. So Steve. . . . don't wash the fabric

Well As you know (but Steve will not) I discovered there was an advantage to fitting a type of tuned pipe for the Z61 to get a bit more power to the propeller. So I have stripped all the internals including the bean can exhaust and re-installed everything. Just finished this weekend actually.

Installation is a little different to your setup Tilmann as I have had to manage the servo installation in the forward section. I stole your method for affixing the fuel tank as it is simple and light weight.

The receiver sits on top of the boxing for the exhaust, but will be stood off from the surface and insulated with a ceramic mat. My engine sits higher in the model because of the bigger flywheel, so I have less dummy engine to play with than you did. Again Ceramic mats will be fitted between the carb and the dummy engine to insulate from radiant heat.

The choke could not be connected in the default position because of the proximity of the dummy engine. So I moved it around so it is operated from the other side. Currently operated by a servo, but if I see any difficulties with it I will add a bellcrank where the servo is not and operate it from a push rod as you did.

Everything is coming out this week so I can re-paint everything and get back to covering the fuselage!
