8103 & Fuses??

Just got my 8103 a few days ago and finally got all my aircraft programmed into it and while I was setting up my Super Cub motor for better response I noticed that the 8103 XMTTR suddenly wouldn't come on!!??@#$&*)#$ Is there a fuse in it or something? I looked inside but could see nothing. It had been OK all day at the field. It wasn't run down and I didn't drop it! In fact it was just on the bench until I picked it up to check on the engine settings and bingo!! Gawd!! I don't want to have to send it down to Horizon the first week I get it! Any thoughts? The 652 had a fuse which blew a few times early in its career but has been rock solid the past two years. Please tell me there is a fuse in this too!

Yes there is a fuse. Pull the module and look inside and you'll find it.

Cheers!

Thanks Tiger. Found it tucked way down the back there under the module just as you described. Looked all over for it but missed it there! A little hard to get at but with a long pair of tweezers got it out and a new one in OK. Thanks for taking the time to answer. It's now on charge again for tomorrow!

James, did you plug the radio in to charge it before it blew?

The reason I ask is it is unusual for the fuse to blow for no reason.

My radio was blowing fuses for a while until I noticed that the charge jack had lost the plastic insulation (cracked and broke away) around the end and was shorting out the fuse when I went to plug it in.

Wouldn't want that fuse to blow while you are flying if it is a problem inside the radio.

YEP!! That was it! Thanks Jim!! Checked my other charger as well and found one of those also had a missing insulation tip. Will purchase a few new ones from the Electronics store and re-furbish my chargers. Still using a couple of the old Ace "Charge Masters" and have never had trouble so never thought to look at them. Will also replace some of the RCVR plugs as they are begining to look a little ratty!
Cheers!
