Not sure if this belongs here or in the electronics section, so I'll start here.
I recently purchased a quad with some emax motors and esc's. As part of my rebuilding process I stripped the heat shrink from each esc to solder some longer battery leads and shorten the motor wires. Upon inspection I've observed solder on the motor pads that has actually bled across and is now touching a couple contacts on the black chips (there are 6 on one side, and other stuff on the other side).
My question - would this solder bleed cause any future issues like short circuiting, magic smoke, grief, regret, sadness? Or am I OK to solder my new wires down and put shrink back down?
Also, I'm experimenting with placement on the arms, do people prefer over or under the arms?

Mine were the same. No issues after I cleaned up and resoldered mine.

Did you have any issues prior to this or were you just lucky like me?
After looking at all the ESC's it appears like they all have some sort of shotty solder job. If this was done at the factory thats some pretty poor QC standards I have to say

I just found them like that when I went to shorten my wires. I think the bleed over is not important because the leads are all common. But as I said I did clean them up with a solder sucker.

Hey Adam, I hope all is well. If these are mine, I didn't touch the wires on either end. I just soldered on the bullets.

There is a thread on RC Groups about changing wires on ESC's. It might be worth a read. As part of my building process, I don't modify wires from the ESC's, I keep the wires the same length as they came from the factory.

Hey yes it is that one, I cleaned my inbox out I couldn't message you back.
That's an interesting article for sure, I've seen lots of quads with long battery leads and short motor leads, hoping to keep the escs away from the vitals in case they decide to cook off.
Would they get adequate cooling under the frame like that?

Hi Adam, I would think so. As long as it isn't over propped. It's not like it's inside a cowl or totally enclosed. I never noticed them being warm, and never read anything about them getting hot.

Parts have finally arrived and I have almost completely reassembled everything. In order to make everything nice and compact and minimize wire mess, I've shortened all the signal leads from the esc's (except for 1 to power the cc3d). I also went thru each esc and attempted to clean up each bleed over using just enough heat to melt the solder. Now that everything is done and re-shrunk, I have a few new questions/concerns.

1. testing power distribution, I plugged in the battery to power up each esc. From what I can tell, each motor does make music, however not every motor does the dance when it makes tones. Is this normal?
2. While investigating the motors to see if they were getting power, one of them had the smell of burning something. I immediately disconnected power and cut the shrink tube away. The odor went away immediately, and careful inspection revealed no scorch marks or burnt chips, and subsequent power-ups yielded no further burning smells or ignition. Could excessive heat on the esc during soldering cause the insides of these chips to melt with no external signs of damage? What's the risk of ignition when applying throttle?
3. this esc is now hardwired at both ends, is it absolutely necessary that they be encased in heat shrink? Is there an option I can do to avoid having to disassemble everything again?
4. what does it take to cause these esc's to cook off, besides powering them backwards?
