Wanted - Failed glow plug pictures with failure reason

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
Hi,

Someplace I've seen pictures of glow plugs with distorted coils, different colours etc. after they had failed.

These pictures showed the damaged coil and then described why it failed. That is - too hot, too much compression, too cold, too rich, too lean, nitro in fuel etc.

I can't seem to locate any pictures on the web - I can find descriptions, but no pictures.

Does any one know where I can find pictures of plugs that have failed and the descriptions of what caused the problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Fly4Fun,

Wayne Miller

Hi Wayne,

I can remember an article in one of the R/C magazines from the late 70's early 80's. Sorry I can't remember which one.

It had the pictures you describe, the reasons for failure and cures.

There was also a list of hot/cold plugs available.

It was a good article. I think I've also seen the info in a friends 'How To' book from the hobby store. (The Care and Feeding of Moldel Plane Engines, possibly?)

My magazine collection is long gone...sorry.

Take care,
Have fun,

There was a series in Model Airplane News, just last year 2004.
You can read the articles online if you have a subscription.

I will have a look and post which months / issues they are in. That will not be today though. In the meantime maybe someone else and dig em up.

Pictures Plugs

Hi Claude,

Thanks for your research. I have the articles and had looked at them previously.

They do show damaged glow plugs, but they don't list the cause, such as damage caused by too hot, too cold, too much compression, too much nitro etc.

I'm looking for pictures that tell what happened to the plug.

Thanks for getting back to me. I've checked the web useing many search engines and just can't find any, I beginning to think tere are no such pictures.

Fly4Fun,
