Deciding what type of planes to bring.
There will be a fly through the little red barn event, first guy through wins like $200. There is always carnage LOL!

Quite a few spectators so a noon show is in order.
I'll have a trainer, 2 electric pylon planes (fast), PA Katana and a Carden 260.
Saturday night is a buffet dinner down by the beach, always good.

Sounds like fun!! Any camping (Tents) allowed.. Nah I'm ancient, might as well rent a motel room nearby.

Make sure my "more ancient" buddy is there, Dale Preston, I'll do my best to get there, something that can fly through a barn.

Woohoo!!!

Re: Why Attend a Zone FunFly?

Joe, camping right at the airport, no hook ups though. Quite a few local motels, they won't break the bank. Not sure I can drag Dale out, car shows. You should call him and rattle his chain a bit.

Re: Why Attend a Zone FunFly?

I've been a continuous model flier since 1950, mostly Free flight and Control line until the late 70's, but an RC sailplane flier since 1973 and latterly electric flying ( including Multicopters).
I have always concentrated on performance type aircraft and though I am not a scale model flier, I have always been most impressed with the skills and ability of these fliers.
I will attend any meeting of any type of model aircraft as i can appreciate the efforts of all those who practice this diverse hobby.
I have attended a number of diverse fly-ins in Atlantic Canada over the past number of weeks and am blown away by the standard that the state of the art model flying has achieved in many categories.
Even today, at our local field, we had electric fliers out in 25 gusting to 45 KPH winds.
Later in the day some friends and I took part in an annual, world wide Cloud Tramp Mass Flyoff for a very basic rubber model which is flown world wide at a specific time ( 1;00pm Atlantic, 5:00 pm UK, 1:00 am in Australia. There are more than 300 fliers who take part in this event.
These past few days, I have been following on the web, on an hourly basis the RC Sailplane World championships, the Junior Free Flight Championships, with representation from over 30 countries in each. Many of you have never heard of such events.
So, don't just limit yourself to your own specific aspect of the hobby, but open your mind to the vast diversity of model types in this, the most wonderful hobby in the world.

Re: Why Attend a Zone FunFly?

Here's a bit of advertising Darryl C wrote up that leads right into the event this weekend.

Hello Pilots:
August 2015 was the fifth annual Sky Harbour R/C Air show and first ever Southwest zone Fun Fly. August 12 to 14 are the dates for the event this year!
So how is this any different than a regular fun fly? Why should you attend this year?
The event is hosted by the Sky Harbour Modelers in conjunction with their annual RC Air Show. We will fly in beautiful Goderich, Ontario, at the Sky Harbour Municipal Airport.
This three day event begins with a setup and test day on Friday; the two days following are the main event, with spectators attending on Saturday and Sunday.
Sky Harbour Municipal airport is a small town airport with light full scale traffic and this allows airport management to issue a NOTAM, in effect, closing the runway and taxi ways. Given these ideal conditions and a closed area, RC aircraft will be flying most of the day and even up until dusk.
Saturday morning the Re/Max hot air balloon airborne will offer tethered rides for a donation, meanwhile RC aircraft including jets, helicopters and prop aircraft will be taking to the air.
The club has partnered with the Goderich Lions club. The Lions takes care of parking and the proceeds of the event will benefit a local children’s camp named Camp Klahanie (a Lions Club project). The Lions also runs a refreshment and information tent where coffee, donuts, popcorn and water are traded for donations to the camp.
A noon time air show will take place Saturday and Sunday, spectators usually number 500. The show features aerobatic performances, helicopter demos, and several jet aircraft. New this year will be Barn Storming, yes the famous little red barn is there to challenge pilots. A prize of $200 is offered to the first pilot to make it through. The show will conclude with a popular candy drop for all the children in attendance.
The Sky Harbour Modelers will set up a booth not only to provide info on RC activities but in addition, to explain the importance of the M.A.A.C. to all those who fly or are considering flying model aircraft.
Everyone has an opportunity to attend a catered buffet dinner at a local, lake-facing restaurant. Live music and conversations will continue on the patio. Last year at the conclusion of the dinner, the following awards were handed out >
1. Best Prop – Bryan Mailloux flying his Extra 260
2. Best Jet – Paul Sousa flying his scale Vampire Jet
3. Pilot’s Choice – the Bean Field Control Line Flyers Club
A large number of pilot prizes were donated by many generous sponsors. Several pilots were generous enough to raffle off their prize, with the proceeds going to Camp Klahanie.
One of the highlights from Sunday was the presentation of a cheque from the M.A.A.C. and Sky Harbour Modelers, to the Goderich Lions Club. Over $2,000.00 was donated to help with the on-going renovations of Camp Klahanie, a local area youth camp. This is one of the main reasons to attend, helping out kids.
If you missed attending last year be sure to attend this year. It is one of the biggest, most heavily sponsored, most largely spectated events that you’re likely to enjoy! See you in the pits in Goderich!
