So then I will have to ensure there is a dark enclosure and haul all that gear to teh flight line area, where others can enjoy the live video too.

Maybe in future MAAC fields will be designed to accomodate use FPVer with trailers and big screen setups.
At our club you can park in the pits if you agree there is no insurance claims.....I would love to see a quality setup, multi screen techy wonder,,,,Don't post your flight on ytube and use a spotter---LOS only,,lol

yep - FPVers should see it as an honour and a privilege to be allowed to fly FPV at any club field. And follow the club rules as any civilized person should.

I would love to drop by your Delta club some time and fly FPV. No recording, just some fun safe flying. I have been driving through Delta once a week lately. Sometimes fly in Burnaby

Hey Scott, drop by doesn't work at our club, as we only allow guests at our pattern/heli events and as special request circumstances,,,,you are invited to be my guest, we will just have to find that right day,,,,,,I fly mostly Sundays
There are lots of members that would have great interest in seeing other fpv setups and even guys like me that welcome new tech,,,,only hiccup is, some basic rules to keep it safe,,,Cheers, see you soon,,,,,My email contact is on the MAAC website

Re: Panoramic FPV; Dual Cams, Dual Screens

Wow! I dont have much updates lately, I have had no power for the last few days, and looking after my place, my sisters place and my mum have kept me busy as heck since the weekend.
Hopefully will be back in the workshop after Christmas

Re: Panoramic FPV; Dual Cams, Dual Screens

Between the ice storm and a couple of days of blackouts, pre christmas shopping, Christmas spent with the family and then boxing day bargain hunting, I haven't had a chance to work on this project.

Before the blackout, I managed to make a plate that will hold the 2 screens together.

The plan here is to keep the 2 monitors integral to each other. You dont want them moving about while you are flying. I eyeballed the bend angle- about 30 degrees. It looks about right.

Of course that would mean 3 cameras as well.

He he... One step a a time, dude

Actually, I was inspired by this setup that I had seen for Microsoft flight simulator about 10 years ago.
It looked something like this:

Ultimately I would like to have more cameras and more screens for a more immersive panormaic view, but it all starts with small steps.

I can easily see a 3 screen setup.

I would love to try that. Actually, I was wondering how many camera's it would take to get a full 360 view. It might be 5.

That would be the ultimate. Then I would definitely need to have a van, so that I can have 5 wide screen TV's completely encircling me. Me sitting inside a circle of TV's. To look around, you would have to turn your body and "look around"...LOL yep, its just a dream for now, but I can see myself doing this someday as FHSS FPV Video systems hit the market.

Looking good Max, have you tested it yet to see how it looks?

Yes. So far, I have only aimed the camera's so that the center of the split screen is on the nose of the plane. This was done in the house. It is hard to say how much overlap I will see on the horizon when I take this outside for its first flight.

I also tried to aim the elevation of each camera so that the 2 screens give the same position and perspective of the horizon.

I am pretty sure there will need to be some adjustments of the camera's aim once I get this outside and flying. But that is expected for this kind of experiment

Re: Panoramic FPV; Dual Cams, Dual Screens

Second VTX is now installed on the wing.

My favourite antenna is the inverted vee.

When I had a single camera, the inverted vee was on one side and the Pitot tube was on the other side. A bit of lead was needed to maintain longitudinal balance. The VTX is positioned on the wing because it is integrated with the FPV camera. Putting it way out on the wing gives me the most separation from my LRS antenna, which is positioned on the tail of the aircraft.

When I added the second camera and VTX, I positioned the second VTX on the wing opposite the existing VTX, next to the pitot tube. This gives me the best separation between the VTX's from each other, as well as as far away from the LRS RX.

Ready to go.
