Re: Best electric floatplane

If considering electric, Eflite Pulse 25 with the Eflite floats recommended for it. Needs more power than recommended and a 4 cell pack helps. Otherwise great flying electric float project.

Re: Best electric floatplane

If you want some water fun and still have the ability to fly from grass and snow try the Model Aero Polaris. Lots of fun:

The pic shows my full size Northstar and the licensed smaller electric Polaris.

Best for what? Casual scale flying, aerobatic, fast, small pond or big lake, new to flying or veteran?

Polaris is popular from what I have seen on the forums. HZ Super Cub DSM on floats is fun for scale flying, but not aerobatic by any means and price is reasonable. GP Seawind EP RxR is more aerobatic and faster, about the same cost, but you need a radio and reciever and it is a seaplane, not floatplane. Wilga 2000 comes with floats and wheels is 4 ch and looks cool. Icon A5s are popular at my club, so are the CL2/415 foamies, both are seaplanes.

If you provide a price range you are comfortable with and some information about what type of flying you want to do (your skill level and area you have to fly in as well) and it will be easier to help make educated suggestions.

As to what is the best? That cannot be answered.

Re: Best electric floatplane

The best for casual flying, on a medium lake, intermediate skill level.

I would be comfortable paying up to $250 for the plane, and enough as necessary for the electronics (I already have a transmitter.)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

Re: Best electric floatplane

Ok, for that I think the super cub or Wilga 2000 would fit your wishlist. I flew the super cub all last summer and this winter without issue on floats 90% of the time. I messed up the floats on ice because the Plastic is brittle in the below 0 temperatures, not a problem in the summer. I was recommended the Wilga as a step up from the super cub, but I have not purchased one so cannot personally speak to its performance. I enjoy the scale looks of the super cub taking off the water, but to be honest the actual flying is a bit boring, I usually take off do one circuit, land and repeat as I really enjoy the landings and touch and goes. If I was doing it again I would get the Wilga as a second plane for off the water flying instead of the gp seawind ep seaplane that I have. Not because of the plane but my limited skills with flying flat winged aircraft, very little to no dihedral and I don't fly it well. The floamies are nice as they are light and typically can fly slower, they are usually easy to repair aswell and less expensive. Hope you enjoy float flying once you decide on a plane.
