Re: 1/4 cub

120 4 stroke minimum and up. Saito 180 would be my choice..Possibly a 26/30cc to gasser depending on the weight of the airplane.

I had a clipped wing version on a Saito 150, weighed 13 lbs. and had great performance..Always wanted a little more out of it though..

Re: 1/4 cub

This one flys awesome with an OS 120 four stroke, 14lbs.........lots of power. I can see wanting more power if you go clipped wing tho.

Re: 1/4 cub

Average power is a 120 four stroke which gives tons more than scale power

I can't count how many quarter scale cubs I have flown, and honestly, more than a 120 is really a waste of a good engine The law of diminishing returns really comes into effect on this airframe, and you get very little back by putting a bigger engine in.

Juice.
A four strke 120/125 will sound amazing. The new Saito 125 gas version would be great too. You may concider something a bit larger if you ever put the cub on floats but these engines would give very scale like proformance on the water aswell. Good luck.

Ran an OS 1.08 2 stroke on my 1/4 clipped wing on wheels and floats at about 14 lbs. That was the largest 2 stroke OS made at the time.

On floats, at instant full throttle and full up elevator on take off, it would pull the plane right off the water without a take off run.

These days, an OS 1.60 would fit but the weight gain (engine + ballast) over the 1.08 would make the move questionable. Perhaps a 1.20 2 stroke or equivalent weight & power Saito if you like them would be OK.

A small gas engine (about 25cc) will look ugly since it will hang out the cowl everywhere. It will also be considerably heavier than a glow 2 stroke or 4 stroke.

The small gas Saito is for people who like to spend money needlessly IMO. No benefit with major increased expenditure.

Probably sopmewhere about the front spars - generally about 25% to 30% of the wing chord length behind the wing leading edge.

It looks like a Balsa USA Cub. IF that's the case, a quick telephone call to them would definitively answer your question with no delay.

Re: 1/4 cub

I had a Balsa USA Cub a few years back and ran it with an ASP108 2 stroke plenty of power would be air borne in about 15' . I then moved from the farm to a small lake and as the lake was now my runway put floats on it. Flew very nicely
