Ignition and receiver battery mounted together?
A little background...
I have a Slipstream SBach. At the moment the CG is 166 mm aft of the leading edge, but it needs to be at 150 mm (16 mm further forward). The only thing with any weight I can think of to move forward is the receiver battery. Of course, the ignition battery is already up at the front. This is a basic setup - no IBECs; one battery for the ignition and one for the receiver. I've done some research online and talked to some other RC fliers and I've gotten conflicting information. so... Question: Can ignition and receiver batteries be mounted in close proximity to one another? Cheers! |

Re: Ignition and receiver battery mounted together?
Should not be a problem. I would keep the wires from each pack isolated from each other as best as possible.

Re: Ignition and receiver battery mounted together?
If using 2.4 (Spectrum or FASST) no problem I have one of my 40% aircraft
with ONE batt. for everything. Ignition Receiver Servos No Problem. sparking from ignition is no longer a problem.

Thanks for the feedback. Here's a diagram of the current setup:
And here's what I thought might work for me: |

Re: Ignition and receiver battery mounted together?
Your ignition unit and it's wires generate a very large pulsating magnetic field. To be safe keep your receiver, it's battery and the wiring as far away as you can. A couple of industrial washers on the front of the prop would probably a safer bet. It would lessen the chance of an unexplained crash.

Re: Ignition and receiver battery mounted together?
The original setup had the throttle servo close to the ignition on one side and the ignition battery on the other. Furthermore, the wiring for the ignition switch crossed the receiver and servo wiring repeatedly... and there were no problems.
My plan would be to run each set of wires down its own side of the fuselage with the only connection a fibre optic link between the ignition cutoff tx and rx... like so: |

Re: Ignition and receiver battery mounted together?
your second picture looks good,go with that setup.by keeping the ignition and wiring on one side and the reciever and wiring on the other side you shouldn,t have any problems.that is how i setup my giant scale gas planes and haven,t had any problems for the last eight years.
