Jetlegend Hawk T-45 build.

Well, I've hinted on and off about building this, its on it's way to me this week

http://www.jetlegend.com/index.php?Page=26

Destination pick all packed up

Looks like i might be going turbine, or EDF still haven't made my mind up 100% yet. Turbine would be sweet with some smoke, but the lag concerns me, with edf the throttle response is way faster..

Will post more pics this week and start looking at it to see what i need to order to start the finish, and plan for power system.

Re: Jetlegend Hawk T-45 build.

Go turbine....lag is a thing of the past. Most modern turbines accelerate from idle to full in about 3-4 seconds. Throttle response with EDF is faster BUT it still takes time to accelerate the airframe. If you are in danger of stalling, EDF will not save you any faster than turbine. If you are that far behind in flyng a model, you have no business flying jets. You need to be a proactive pilot and not reactive.

I have 3 turbines and a large 12S EDF, so I am speaking from experience. EDF is most useful and efficient in low drag airframes. The T45 has a large fuse cross section and will be quite draggy. And a good performing EDF system in that size airplane will cost more than a good turbine. A K80 will be cheaper than an EDF system for the T45.

It takes a P70, says right in the instructions :

ENGINE INSTALLATION
The T-45 was designed to fly with
54mm class engines from 12 to 18 pounds of
thrust. It was NOT designed for larger
engines 66 class engines such as the Jetcat
P-80. You may be able to get one to fit, but
the weight and fuel consumption are big
issues. If you feel you need unlimited vertical
performance, try one of the very high
performance 54 class engines such as the
Wren Super Sport.

A few guys have converted these to EDF, and its about the same price as the Turbine Kev-o has for sale, using 2 6s8000 batteries & a good EDF unit..

here is a good video,

Re: Jetlegend Hawk T-45 build.

You gotta look at where you can safely fly....choices are severely limited on the Island. EDF would offer more options for flying sites.....
