Models by John - Mig 17 build

Hi guys I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Model by John Mig 17 when I went to Kingstons RC Auction Saturday

Looks to be all there and should be a fairly easy build! So here goes!

Looks like F5 fits nice as well as F6 in the tail - The two pieces of F3 looks like it overlaps slighly were it meets on the centerline of the floor. An easy adjustment and it can be braced on each side at the joint

After test fitting F3 , F5 and F6 should be easily be secured into place with a touch of Hysol epoxy

Nice looking kit! I'm not familiar with the manufacturer, what are the specs of the mig.

Cheers

Looks to be still in production, $250Cdn from John. Have been seeing John concentrate on his Arrow pusher and EDF versions, but he may have some of the -17 kits in the rafters.

Also makes a great snack, unless you're a diabetic -- too much sugar! I'd be tending towards zip-lock bags of kitty litter.....

Re: Models by John - Mig 17 build

For those who have never ventured into Fiberglass work - The tools make the man - #1 Use a mask.

Today I took on the task of cutting out the cockpit so I can install the clear canopy. I used a pencil and traced out the frame of the cockpit and then using a carbide tip bits on my dremel I removed the unwanted material. Dura-Grit bits are amazing - I started with a fine point tip that lets you go in like a drill and then holding it in you can run/drag it in any direction like a knife in butter.

I then sanded the edges down with other pointed tips - I got fairly close into the lines I had drawn I then finished up with a flexable carbide sanding stick I got from BVM for sanding rough edges smooth.

PS: Hi Eric not sure what's going in there yet? - Just happy to be in the construction phase att - I like to get a balanced fan/motor ESC combo - I should email John to see what he thinks
