Buying a Slipstream Beaver

Hi guys,
I just ordered the yellow/black Slipstream Beaver from Great Hobbies. I have floats built and glassed, just need some paint and the gear put together. I think I will try and fly it with wheels at first to get the feel of it. I will order some Dubro hinges, 6 volt battery pack, AR6210??? and now to decide on an engine....

That opinion is a varied as the discussion of what came first, the "Chicken or the egg"!

I have a DLE30 on mine, pipercub17 has a 20 on his. Mine has unlimited vertical, which is kind of fun! Ever see a Beaver do 3D?

What servos are you using? In the instructions they first list 80 in-oz servos, then a bit farther down they state you need 120 in-oz servos.

I'm setting mine up with an RCV 120SP, since I can't store gas planes where I live. I'm trying to keep it as light as possible.

I used HS-645MG servos in mine 96 oz of torque @ 6V. As this plane isn't a 3D special, and flys like a large trainer, I think 120 oz servos is over-kill. I guess there are guys out there that might try and fly 'em like a warbird or 3D plane, they better use better hinges, control rods, and horns than the ones that came with the plane.

Brent . are you sure you are not running HS-625MG's ? They are listed @ 94 oz's @ 6V , whereas the HS 645MG's (i have used lot's of those ) are 133 oz's @ 6V . Not to be nit-picky , just don't want anyone to make a choice given some wrong information .

Re: Buying a Slipstream Beaver

If I go with a gas engine will I be able to store it in my basement like my nitro? Or will the smell of gas be too strong for the house? Also is it necessary to go with metal gear servos?

Re: Buying a Slipstream Beaver

I have been told that when you go gas, it is a wise move to use metal geared servos. Right John? You tell him why!!!

PS I store my gassers in the house too. I do plug the vent line though.

You might want to check out the OS33gt ,looks like a better engine than the DLE.My new DLE30 is sitting at Azure Hobbies trying to figure why it dose nt run.Because of the viberation gas engines make you will want to go to metal or even better titanuim servos.PS hows the snow in my homeland.Ross

Re: Buying a Slipstream Beaver

Hey Ross,
No snow in central but the avalon got hit with 30cm a couple days ago. I stayed a couple nights in Vernon last summer on vacation, beautiful place. So you guys say the gas engines vibrate more than the nitro engines, guess i will have to get the the metal gear servos.
