MAAC Question???
How do you find out if a person has valid MAAC if he will not present a valid card upon request?
Any feed back would be great!

Other than that, if it's a club concern, and the individual in question is refusing to show their MAAC but still demanding to fly at the club, a phone call to MAAC should be able to let you know if they are current or not. |

Re: MAAC Question???
My opinion is, if he is at a MAAC sanctioned field, he either shows his MAAC Card or he is not permitted to fly. Period. I agree with Jeremy. If he wont show it, he doesn't have it.
ON THE OTHE HAND- If this is NOT at a MAAC field, then it's nobody's business.

Re: MAAC Question???
I believe that any MAAC approved club has the authority and duty to demand that anyone flying on it's property show their valid card, or they don't get to fly - that simple.
No club can afford to risk an uninsured pilot for any reason. Anyone can forget it once, but next time - no card - no fly. Not negotiable!! Just my 2 cents.

Re: MAAC Question???
We have a transmitter impound which must be used for 72 MHZ "and" 2.4... and a paper clip holder for your MAAC card. Max five flyers. If you have 5 flying and only four MAAC cards up there.. then someone is not registered, or has some explaining to do.

Re: MAAC Question???
Here is a question. Just how far would you go if that person refused NOT to fly, but instead kept right on going? Just ignored the comments from the peanut gallery, etc.
Really, what could you actually do to stop that person? (within reasons of course). I have no doubt that lots actually do fly at club fields without the proper MAAC, most liley when no one else in there. |

Re: MAAC Question???
Potentially a hot topic ... but let's see if we can persue with logic rather than emotion.
Flying at a MAAC sanctioned field without MAAC puts the entire club at risk. When I was president of a club, I recall one of the stipulations on the agreement with the field owner was that we would provide our own insurance and the owner was adamant that this be strictly adhered to. Ultimately the owner is responsible for activities on their property and he was concerned for this exposure. I don't blame him and respect his concerns/liability. If I catch someone without insurance, I'd calmy explain this same situation to them and, if they beligerently insisted on continuing to fly I would warn them that they're leaving me no other choice but to place a call to police and charge them with trespassing should they continue. This is a VERY uncomfortable position to be in and, I've heard others claim they would place the call anonymously but, I feel that's very unfair given that the violater may not understand the risk they represent is not just to themselves.... Fair warning ... then call is my motto.

Re: MAAC Question???
Obviously if the policy is that a flyer needs to present a MAAC card to fly, the flier should do that willingly. The caveat being the policy has to be applied consistently. (IE. no exceptions).

Re: MAAC Question???
A few of us were discussing this very thing around the workbench last week.
We have a well attended Fathers'day fly-in every year at Margaree Cape Breton Last years attendance was well over 50 flyers. We are a very laid back bunch- just have a good time one and all. One thing I want to pass on to everyone attending this year is that we will require proof of insurance(MAAC). I'm absolutely certain that those attending have their insurance but just rhyming off your MAAC number will not do. Gotta have that little card or proof that you sent in payment. In the older days we used to have some MAAC forms and anyone who didn't have insurance could fill one out and I believe they were covered as soon as they paid up to the sponsoring club. Anyone know if this is still the case ??? So to all our faithful attendees and any who might like to try us out this year. PLEASE insure you have your card. As the preceeding folks have so eloquently put it, I don't think I need to say more !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks George Carabin Cape Breton RC Modellers |

Re: MAAC Question???
If it is public land you may not be able to do much unless it is specifically set aside for use by club/MAAC members only. In the US this is a very big problem as most of their fields are on land managed by the Core of Army Engineers and as such it is public property and anyone can use it.
Private land should fall under use by club members and guests only. Does your club require proof of MAAC membership before obtaining membership in the club? This simple prerequisite insures all club members are indeed MAAC members. This will allow your club to remove non members from the club premises with the help of the local police. Personal confrontation may not be in anyone’s best interest your executive are the best ones to deal with offenders. If it is a private field they will be the ones with the authority to have non members removed. You can still be charged with common assault or worse if you exceed your authority or take physical action. If you go this route you may very well be in store for some reprisals by these same individuals. It’s not a healthy situation but one that needs to be addressed. Dennis |
