If a guy wanted to 3D

But was totally new to the electrics, what would you recommend?
The whole ball of wax, please, motor, servos, batteries etc

Wouldn't mind having something to fly in the back 40's once in awhile or in an indoor hall etc

Thanks!

gear

Shock flyer Yak
340mah 2 cell Thunder Power lipo
Phoenix 10 ESC
Axi 2204/34 motor
Hitec HS55 servos
any good micro receiver (i myself have had great luck with the GWS pico stuff)

This would be strictly meant for indoor as it would be very lightweight however if you wanted something that would be a bit better suited for outdoor flight, 730mah 3 cell Thunderpower lipo and an Axi 2208/34 motor would be better suited.

TP 340? Do you mean TP 480?

Anyways, 2204/54 on 2s is too weak for great 3D...run the Hacker A20 34S motor if you want to run 2s (you can run it on 3s if you are crazy like me ) This is especially true of the Yak and the larger shockies...the first generation were OK on 2s&2204/54 but not superb

If you are going to run 3s then the 2204/54 is a nice little motor...APC 8x3.8SF prop. Super power for anything up to about 8 oz....over that start looking to the Hacker outrunner motors.

Go Berg RX if you are planning on flying indoors.

shockflyer anytype, i have tryed the F3A, extra, and superstar and so far they were all amazing

light 4g max servos, most brands are ok but the hitec 50's seem fairly good and if you wanted a larger hs55 on aleron

little screamers motor is doing me well but the cdr would be a good alternitive and proboly outpreform the axi 2204 (according to specs anyway)

3s 340mah koham packs, or the tanic 350's this would be the only battery to run on this size of foamy IMHO

cc10 esc all the way

burg 4 rx

I went through the same agonizing learning curve this summer. I wanted an airplane that flew somewhat like a "real" airplane however.

I ended up with an "Extra Stiffy" from www.copperheadaviation.com

They supplied me with a Hacker A20-20L and a CC Phoenix 25 speed control. I added an RX and 4 HS55 servos.

With a 1600ma 3 cell lipo I can flip, flop and fly for about 12 minutes. I have lawn darted this thing a bunch of times and the worst I've done is broken a prop. It will snap-roll like a bigger airplane and is easy to hover and stuff. I can now hover it in front of me 10' off the deck. The coolest thing is that it is training me for low altitude bail-outs that are translating directly to my big airplanes!

Fun stuff, but definitley not an indoor airplane. I've been getting lots of stick time in the field across the street from my house. It's very cool to power up in the garage and give the plane a toss while walking across the street!

Thunder Power 3s 480 Prolites are lighter, more capacity and deliver more current than both those packs.

Thanks for all the replies! I was at the field today. Next thing I know, I'm taking delivery of a 3D electric plane, hope I done good ?

I purchased:

1 3D foam plane
a 2204/54 AXI brushless motor
a Castle Creations Phoenix Brushless 10 ESC
3 Naro servos
1 830MAH 2 cell Apogee battery

Everything is setup. I just had to install a receiver.
Then, it struck up quite a conversation and I ended buying a NIB Edge 540 Shock Flyer

My first plane was a fancy foam Extra 300 from www.fancyfoam.com. I must say it isn't a shocked version but all the foam is laser cut and channels are 'dug' for the carbon rods. There's a package you can buy with a brushed motor and a performance package with a brushless. It's a plane I could do anything with and it stuck together. Had 70* of throw on elevator and it did incredible parachutes about 2' off the ground at full power!!!! Had a blast with it.
