Why do you need more voltage with a 3DX system? I assume you are talking about the 3DX designed by Tim Hart? If so, I have a similar plane with a GWS 350 drive system on it, and it worked GREAT with 2 cell LiPo's! With 3 cells, you'll certainly get more thrust, but you'll also cook motors in very little time.

just so everyone knows who is reading this and wondering what to get.

i built the bipe instead for my first foamie, with the untouched retarded gws motor (350) and d gearing, the plane hovers at half throttle in warm weather, and at -10ish outside at 3/4 thottle, just giving enough breathing room to pull out in time of need. This is with the 3 cell lithium pack. I have notice the prop likes to hit all the time and rip off the motor. so when i go for my 3dx im going to install landing gear. and maybe try the 2 cell rout, as my bipe has balsa braces along the fuse which add alot of weight, and alot of glue now after the motor ripping off over and over. im gonna go the carbon rod way with the 3dx. my goal is to get it floaty enough for a gym. Hopefully.

i must say tho, this bipe when first flew, was a bit tail heavy, but damn, the nicest and easiest harriers ive ever done.

2-3 cell li-pos

if you want to run a 3-cell li-po and not fry the motor, get a GWS twin 4.8
volts,( i use the A drive RLC 4.8V) resolder it in series, which boosts the voltage to 9.6V
put heat sinks on the motors and your away (3-700's) e-tech work great
with throtle management you shouldn't have any over heating problems

i never even thought about heat sinks,

i was also thinking today, whydont they/or do they? make modified 300 series or 400 series motors, it seems the only options are these crap stockers or brushless. i mean they are even making modified motors in them little hpi micros. i think having shorter flights for way added power would be worth it, maybe not.
