Cooling fins

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
Hello to all.
I have g-62 mounted and now I find that I need to move the engine
back towards the firewall.Problem is that the cooling fins on the rear of the
cylinder will be touching the firewall.(I may have to remove 3/16'' of an
inch). Question is 1) Can I safely remove some of the cooling fins and still
have proper cooling?
2) How much clearance should I have between the
cylinder and firewall?
The fuse is fiberglass and the engine will be cowled in with a dummy
engine sitting in front.

Thanks in advance

Paul,
How much fin do you have behind the engine. If the engine is side exhaust where most of the heat is retained there should not be a problem as long as you still have some fins. Make sure you have lots of cooling air flowing into the cowl and a larger exit. You can also make a cooling duct to flow the air around the cylinder which is done full scale for the same problem.
