Will a Saito FA-72 work in the Hanger 9 P-51 Mustang PTS ARF?

It might work, but it's about twice the weight of the suggested .40 size 2-stroke. It will be quite difficult to fly at only 627 square inches wing area.

A Funtana s40 with 714 square inches of wing flies much better with such a heavy engine.

A Saito .72 is 16.7 onces. An evolution .46 is 16.96 onces. The Saito would work fine in the PTS as long as it would fit in the cowl.

Thanks for the advice. I thought it would fit but as I am relatively new to the hobby wanted a more experienced opinion.

sell the p-51 trainer and buy a proper trainer. those things are absolute crap and it will go in.

I don't agree that they are crap. I enjoy mine very much, but I would hesitate to recommend it as a first plane. I do know a young chap who learned to fly with one, and has graduated to the point that all the "go slow" toys have been taken off so now it flies with a serious 2 blade APC prop and is a screamer, so it can be done. However, unless you have misspent many hours of your youth building eye hand co-ordination and reflexes on Nintendo or similar, you would be better served by a standard high wing trainer such as an LT-40 or a Nexstar.

I do not consider myself a particularly talented flyer, and am generally much more comfortable with slower, larger planes. Having said that, I know it is "cool" to fly a warbird, or something that resembles one moderately closely, and so I can get out to the strip and be cool, 'cause I fly a warbird too. (Those clear plastic things on the wings are just to protect the leading edges from bumps and bruises, guys)

I totally disagree with YoungestPiperCUB . I have one and enjoy it immensley . Not a first plane but a very good second. I have flown mine a lot with an OS .61 4st and it handles like a dream. I put it into the dirt a couple of weeks ago (no fault of the plane) and I am going to revive it this winter cause I enjoyed flying it tons and can't be without it.

i would caution teaching yourself with this aircraft but i can't see the harm if someone is to buddy box it then it would be a great choice and it will transition to second plane better than any trainer

I have one with a used .40 size engine, and it flies good enough with a 2 blade 11X5 prop.

I found the controls are so sluggish with 3 blades prop and the wing extensions, the plane fly slowly and it responds to the commands slowly without stalling, I think that is the reason they advertise it as trainer. In fact some people in our club learned to fly and got their wings with Mustang PTS. But I think a regular trainer like SIG Kadet is a better choice for first plane.

it shud work...and while ur at it u may as well go with the saito 82

but i've noticed that these planes have a low ground clearance. With the Saito 72 or 82 u'll likely be swinging a prop of 13" diameter. Dont know if that prop will clear the ground.

but that plane certainly need more power. I've flown one of them with the evo 46 2 stroke. man that thing is sluggish!! (at least for my liking)
