Another 2 cents...so not bashing a TM unit...just throwing this out there.....

Cheers and may the warm summer come and give us Heli-Crazy folks some decent flying weather ( anyone for a road trip to Florida ?? LOL )

Yes and No Richard. What I meant is if I just hover I can put in 11 minutes of flying and if I do extreme 3D only 4 minutes so if I mix sport and hard 3D how long can I fly? the TM will let me know before I reach the LiPo critical voltage. But yes I did fly for many months without one, but it is nice to have it. It is like saying why do I need an electric window in my car or electric door lock, we can live without it but it is nice to have.
Cheers

Changed to a bigger pinion and went into govenor mode. Now I am running it at 89%. I know common sense is key but it won't tell you that info!
Even though I dropped the ESC down to a load of 89% it still blew. At this point I still dont know why. Waiting on Castle to recieve the ESC and have a look at it.

The higher the C rating, usually the more expensive the battery. Getting an extremely high discharge rated pack when there is no way you could possibly pull the full amount of power is not required but it won't hurt either. The most important thing is you can't go with too low a discharge C rating or you will damage your battery and possibly your ESC

I got this info from this site
http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-lipo-batteries.html

It may not be your problem, also look if you have proper air flow over the ESC so it does not overheat, also using to high and even to low of a voltage will burn you ESC. You can also solve your problem by installing a BEC to regulate the voltage.
Good luck

Found this for you, this may help
pay very close attention to the negative issues. Most issues I've seen with stripped gears, fried esc's puffed packs etc. have been a result of the gov mode. For electric helicopters

Can the TM1000 be used with the 3GX?

Did some digging. You need to run the 3gx and the AR8000 or compatible TM1000 RX to do it.
