81" cub with 5" dubro inflatables?
I finally got my 5" dubros today they look good but are heavy as compared to the little 3.5" wheels (0.44Kg). What can I expect when I take it up? A longer run up for sure but how about the handling? Also I put on a 12x8 prop to try and get the Rpm down a little(Master Airscrew).

The 12x8 may make landing a bit tricky, It may just keep on going. Maybe give a 12.25x3.75 or a 12x4 a try along with some throttle management and she should slow down nice for you! cheers Curt

Re: 81" cub with 5" dubro inflatables?
Thanks Curt. I dont know what I was thinking when I ordered those 12x8 props, I have a hard enough time getting the plane down now. I usually cut the engine a couple feet from the ground.

Re: 81" cub with 5" dubro inflatables?
With a Cub, I doubt the extra weight of tires is going to cause any undo concern. Just wondering though, why 5" tires? Are you flying off thick grass or harsh tundra?
On my 1/4 scale cub ( 108" span) I am using what is considered the proper scale size of tires and they are Dubro Cub 4.250" tires & rims. At 81" span your cub is probably what, a 1/5 scale size? Just wondering why you opted for such large tire size. Also they must look big on that cub, right!

Re: 81" cub with 5" dubro inflatables?
The only place I have to use is an old sawmill site. Its somewhat flat, its clear of trees and unoccupied, but has some large chunks of wood and soft sawdust areas. Also the dirtbikes and atvs use this area so there are some trenches. The nearest rc club is 35 km away making it difficult for a quick evening flight. Have a look at the link to see the area i use.

I love the tundra look, and as was stated the cub is such a floater it can handle the extra weight. My WM 1/3 scale Super Cub (142" WS) lands about 5 - 7 mph in a light wind with the flaps down. Can't wait till spring so I can fly it again, I maidened it a week before Alberta got hit with snow and minus 20 weather......

Let us know how it goes supercub. Still haven't got a chance to try mine out with four stroke(12x8 also) and 5inchers due to weather and a tempermental ar7000 reciever.Motor sure pulls at full throttle. maybe it will hover LOL.

Re: 81" cub with 5" dubro inflatables?
We have alot of wind in our area the past few days but maybe this evening..
Also I left the power on my cub the other evening and three days later I noticed it was still on, do you think I damaged the battery? It charged up ok and is still showing 5.3volts. Being a 4.8 volt battery Im thinking this is good? Should I rebind even though all controls are working? |

Rebinding should not be required. I would cycle the battery if your charger allows and see what capacity it reads.
