Re: Sailplane winch....wanted to buy

HI. I am looking for a winch with pulleys, a brake, line, a starter motor and run by a car battery. I don't need the battery, but do need the other hardward. Definitely not a High Start. Bill

Saw a set of plans for one somewhere. Will see if I can dig them out from where I think I saw them.

Re: Sailplane winch....wanted to buy

Very busy this time of year. Fun-fly's (power) etc. Surprisingly easy to build your own. I will send you a P.M. later, add personal E-address. To forward photo's If you do a little ground work, Mine is based on a "57 Fords long shaft starter. I purchased mine from a auto parts store, NAPA here in Alberta. Say $100 core included. the Turn around is a modified Bicycle hub. Cord is 120lb masons staight line.
Once you have your own, you will winch most all of your gliders. And become comfortable at most any event.
Club work-bee tonight, chat later.

Re: Sailplane winch....wanted to buy

Hi again re "looking for a winch". Thank you for the responses I have received re my search for a winch. There certainly was some good information sent my way....It will prove very useful for me. Someone in our club has now located a winch so I don't think I will search any furthur myself for one at this time. I can't wait to start using the winch for my sailplanes. Thanks again. Bill
