new challenge for 2012

I don't want to mess with Otterville's "through the barn challenge" but, having driven more than a few miles through South-Western Ontario, I think we are missing out on a great fun-fly contest. I thought at first that Kinkardine flyers would surely host this event but now, having been back through Chatham, there may be competition for hosting. There is a scoring system for this event so judges will be required - not to determine if the airplane got through as that will be self evident, but where the airplane went through. I'm sure you are seeing this in your mind already but, just in case not, what I envision is using these great windmills in the same manner that Otterville does its barn door. Since any fool cal fly through when the blades are turning slowly, there are points awarded commensurate with wind-speed. Realizing that the "window of opportunity" is smaller closer to the hub (here is where the judges come in), points are added for proximity to the centre - kind of like darts! There will be doubling or tripling of points for multiple windmills traversed - without landing of course. Scores are also increased for the size of the airplane. This could be a world first and I think we should grab this thing by the horns - or blades. No full size planes allowed as there are likely rules somewhere about that.

All suggestions welcome - it's a slow time of year

like these .... (and it's past noon somewhere)

you could probably do a circuit of all 6 on one battery. (slow fliers get extra points.)

Re: new challenge for 2012

do you mean like through one direction and back through the same rotor from the other direction ? Neat and maybe extra points if you get through the same two blades on the way back ? Ah this could be a a great event .....
