Could anyone help me figure out how to, or send me a diagram showing how to turn landing lights on/off from a spare radio channel without using a servo activated on off switch. Who or what type of device do I need for this? Please PM...Many thanks, fellows...

Re: Landing Lights

You can use this with one of the switches on your tx.

Re: Landing Lights

I've tried both the HK ones and the Hanson Hobby ones and much prefer the Hanson Hobby ones. The PERS weights under 2 grams and is small enough to fit in the smallest model, plus I'll trust its electronics over the HK ones (and they stand behind their product). Unlike the savings you get with their lipos, the less than $3 savings for the switch just would not be worth it to me.

Re: Landing Lights

I'll second Waylander's recommendation. I met Chris Hansen at Toledo last year since I had been in prior contact with him regarding his receiver activated switches. I too have the opinion his electronics are far better quality than what you get from HK with the added bonuses of the following:

a) You can select which direction the switch will activate. This is something NOT available with the HK switches, (I have them too). This may not be so important when operating alone on a discreet channel, but when tied to another function it comes in handy.

Unfortunately in my case the HK switch would only activate the landing lights when the gear retracted on my Harvard, direct opposite what was required.

b) Chris also offers many of his products in "KIT" form for anyone skilled enough to attempt assembly on their own. Their prices reflect this. This was the option I took as I could customize the end result.

Re: Landing Lights

Another option is the following. The lights are extra bright and highly visible in direct sunlight as opposed to the standard LED's

http://www.electrodynam.com/store/SunVis.html

The system is expensive, but worth the cost for larger aircraft where high visibility is wanted.

Re: Landing Lights

Simple but heavy solution is to use a micro servo to run a micro switch. Bonus is that the circuit is isolated from your Rx electrical if you use a separate power supply to run the lights. No chance of shorting or discharging your Rx battery.
