One tip per day
Let's see how far this goes.
I suggest we post one new tip every day to help the jet community. Here is mine Apply Vaseline to brake O rings to obtain even and smooth braking.

Re: One tip per day
Make friends with and AME at your local airport. May be a source for jet fuel.
Always keep extra gear pins in spares. Drill rod cut to length and hardened should work and comes in many different diameters. Oops. That's 2...........

Re: One tip per day
Always turn the manual fuel valve to the off position at the completion of a flight to prevent hot starts after refueling on the next flight.

Re: One tip per day
Wrap servo leads in a couple of layers of black electrical tape and then glue the tape to whatever to secure the wires. Easily removed later if you need to mod something.

Re: One tip per day
I use unhardened pins for nose steering. I use 1/4 inch bolt with the head turned down in my mini lathe. Easier to replace a bent pin than reglue retract frame bearers and other wood parts. Like a brass shear pin in an outboard boat prop. Pin worth 2 or 3 bucks but broken prop worth several hundred.

Re: One tip per day
If you have a jet that likes to bounce on landing apply about 20% Crow to the ailerons it will keep your jet hugging the runway, Even if you do not have flaps. In order to get crow you need to have an extra channel for each aileron.
The way to set it up is to have flight modes on your flap switch that you can adjust your trim for each flight mode. By doing this you can adjust trim on your elevator while your flying and have your flap switch set to landing to give you crow on landing and normal flight without flaps. Trial and error got it working for me. hope it helps you guys out!

Re: One tip per day
To put the anti-jet people at ease. Ask them to help you with your jet. A hand unloading it or holding the wing on is a good way for them to see that they are just models to. Ask them to be a spotter and you will have a friend for life.
Its the fear of the unknown that gets them on edge, so the more you bring them into your circle the better off everyone will be. |
