flying field set up

Hi fellow RCer's! We are in the process of re-doing our flyingfield (to the other side) and are re-doing the flight lines. We have installed low barriers around the flight stations, but It looks like a maze! I personally don'
t like to have fencing in front of me even if it is only 2ft high!
Does anyone have suggestions as to how they have set up their stations so that they provide some safety and yet feel 'user friendly'? Spacing distances etc, would help, or even simple diagrams.
Thanks

360 degree picture of our field... hope this helps

http://www.ajaxrcclub.com/newsletter.../360medium.jpg

I don't have the measurements handy but the gaps between the fence feel a little tight for my 88" bipe. No problem, either end of the field is open.

The white posts in the background (toward the clubhouse) support chain link fencing to keep the public out of the pits area (we do a lot of public demos). There's an opening at centre with and offset fence in front you should just be able to make out.

You get used to the flightline fences and appreciate them at times on student night. The pits fencing gives peace of mind when firing up a large engine with a large crowd watching (especially with kids)....

FLYING FIELD SET UP

Hi guy's.Setting up your field to meet the mimimum saftey codes or the maximums are a challenge. Our club,Riverside modelers, had long disscussions on barriers for the pilots that were comfortable. After seing a great natural barrier on a club site in the southern US,we've addopted the same thing.
We're growing hedges. As they thicken up and grow to the desired height, they will stop pretty well any size model, are attractive as compared to orange snow fences and easy to maintain.Making them grow has been a challenge but as the sections are filling in,they are working fine.As a back up,we installed metal pipes evert 6 feet, two rows of semi slack yellow nylon rope and let the grass grow thick below the second rope. It's worked jst fine as the hedges are growing.
Other that the odd field mouse running across our feet, the biggest challange was finding a good water source.
Just anothe idea to consider.

I flew at a field set up like this... I had so many blackfly bites after one flight I almost didn't want to fly again.

What's the matter Jim? Afraid of a blemis or two? Honestly, you upper Canadians are getting soft.
Seriously,we've not had that experience. It could be that being in the middle of a wet lands park, the variety of birds and other bug, seem to keep them under control. That and the constant wind that blows up from the Bay of Fundy.

I don't like parasites. I grew up in the country (Pt. Sydney) but since I moved to the city I seem to have developed allergies to bug bites. Every bite seems to swell up to the size of a quarter and stick around for weeks.

Your location sounds idyllic, I'd love to see some pictures. Does your club have a website?

Gee Jim,sorry to here that bug's bug you so bad.Attending events out side of the city must be a bit of a pain.I guess living in a small city with the country never more than 5 minutes away has been a help for me.Maybe you should check out alergy elimination treatments to help you servive this buggy situation.Or,move here and re-develope a tolerence for getting bit.

It's amazing how quick you can get used to not getting bit... I worked in Algonquin park while in University. The deer flies there don't bother biting, they just tear of a chunk and fly away with it to enjoy at their leisure.

I'd love to live in the country again. I keep moving further out of the city but work keeps me within "reasonable" commuting distance.

Now I gotta go stock up on Muskol and After-Bite for the trip to the Chatham Scale rally....

I'll have to take credit for that one. Tripod, digital camera and about 30 overlapping pictures. Then I painstakingly edited the photos - okay, so I didn't do that part. I let the software stitch it together. Try list link for an interactive 360 shot as if you are standing in the middle of the field.
